I like all these thoughts! Especially the first one, which is now part of my Buffyverse headcanon.

(And just to be clear -- it wasn't a complaint about the story at all! I agree that fairy tales in particular are well suited to leaving a bit of mystery. It was just a question that piqued my interest.)
