30 day music meme #10
1/3 of the way there!
10. A song that makes you sad
Fleetwood Mac - Jumping At Shadows
I was going to go with something else, then Peter Green went and died the other day, and I had to pick one of his last performances with Fleetwood Mac. He was on his way to being one of the great guitar heroes, and instead... schizophrenia happened. I got to see him live around the turn of the millennium, after he finally got on proper meds, and he seemed happy to be performing again... but he should have had more, damnit.
God have mercy
But I think I'm going insane...

The weird thing is, Fleetwood Mac is really two distinct bands. They started in the mid-60s as a British blues rock band...

...and then after losing all three guitar players/vocalists to drugs, mental illness and hippie cults, they reemerged in the mid-70s as a US soft-rock band, with only the drummer and bass player left from the original band.

I like both versions of the band, but those early recordings with Peter Green bleeding his heart out on guitar are something special.

I do like Nicks' version of Black Magic Woman more than I probably should, though.

Great melody. Killer violin solo. Total bummer.
