Actually 638 (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/nov/26/fidel-castro-cia-cigar-assasination-attempts). I was highly amused. I was beginning to think he was immortal and couldn't be killed.
Trump thinks it will equal a free Cuba. Seriously? The man hasn't been running Cuba for years. And free in what way exactly?
People like Trump tend to define "free" as "for sale", so...
Honestly, I do hope this will mean some democratization for Cuba; Castro's brother is no spring chicken either. I'm just wondering whether the US under Trump will continue to be an example for people wanting freedom as opposed to Freedooooom!TM.
Well, I don't know how closely you've been following what's happening over here, but it's not exactly a foregone conclusion that Trump will become President.
There's a few irons in the fire that may change that. This is a weird election year on multiple levels.
* For the first time in history, the winner of the popular vote exceeds the winner of the electoral college by more than 2 million votes. That's much broader that Gore vs. Bush. So, there's a movement to do away with the Electoral College and take the popular vote (this would disenfranchise the rural red states in the middle of the country that have low populations, aka Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Dakotas and hand the power over to California and NY.)
* Trump has various foreign business dealings that may make his Presidency UnConstitutional, which he failed to fully disclose.
* They are recounting the votes in three battleground states, where voter suppression and fraud may have occurred.
* There not one but two groups working to flip the Electoral college from both parties. One wants to write in a new candidate like Mitt Romney.
So...let's wait until after December 19, to start wondering...The electoral college meets and votes on December 19.
I've heard all that (it's very hard to NOT hear the latest news on the US election), but honestly, I remember hearing pretty much the same things when GWB was elected. If any of that happens, great, but...
No, that was a bit different. People didn't hate him. And there were no noises of flipping the electoral college.
In that election -- they only recounted one State, Florida. GWB didn't have any businesses or potential foreign business conflicts. And Gore was the one contesting it not Nader.
Here? We have Jill Stein requesting the recount of three to four states.
Two groups, headed by Republicans, considering flipping the Electoral College.
And investigations into various things, like Russia hacking into it, etc.
I mean in GWB's case, the Republicans were behind him. Here, not so much.
Very different scenario.
I don't know what will happen, but I have this feeling we got another crazy plot twist coming. Because you know...2016.
I was thinking exactly that! 2016 is a slow-motion Rapture, and by the end of the year all who are judged worthy will have died, and everyone else will be left with Trump, Putin, Farage and Le Pen as the leaders of what's left of the world.
That's brilliant, thanks for writing that. There was always such a depth to Book, and his faith was a huge part of it but far from all of it; we deserve more like him, in fiction and real life.
(Just saw your message on DW, btw, for some reason I don't get notifications for that. I very rarely read stuff on DW, I mostly just xpost from it so I'll have my works on both sites in case one goes belly up.)

But 2016 only needed one go at it.
