Stuff

Stuff the first: Banner, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] xlivvielockex! Oh, Marti, how I love thee.

Stuff the second: icon for [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr's "Bring Out Your Dead" month. Sappy, I know, but I think we've already established that I'm a bit of a softy sometimes.

Stuff the third: The big LJ emigration. I ain't goin' nowhere.

Over the past few weeks, a lot of people stood united. As someone who's fairly new to the whole thing, I found it incredibly moving. And while a mass exodus to greatestjournal or insanejournal or wallstreetjournal might look like a good idea on paper, it feels a bit like retreating and dividing strength to me - even IF most people were to emigrate to the same place with all flists, comms and links in place, which feels unlikely (and even if the new place didn't go the same way as LJ two years from now...)

So no more runnin'. Misbehave. Join [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts. Join [livejournal.com profile] fan_investors. And, well, keep on keepin' on. To quote one of the many icons that's been making the rounds - "Fuck not with fandom, for fandom fucks back". Not off. Big business is here to stay and we're not getting out of its belly, but I kinda like the idea of us giving it salmonella now and then.

ETA: Such as [livejournal.com profile] china_shop's wonderfully pervy Making Up Is Hard To Do (LJ/Fandom, NC-17). Go read.

ETA 2: Or, for that matter, [livejournal.com profile] vampedvixen's The New Big Bad. Snicker.

And even if only, say, 25% of those are actually very active (that's a number I completely pulled out of my ass) that's still the equivalent of a big city (or a very small country). And no society is ever free from the odd scandal, miscarriage of justice or mad dictator. Which isn't to say that the LJ people have NOT made a complete mess of things, but... Gotta take the good with the bad, etc. As long as they don't actually try to throw us out, I think leaving is an overreaction.

Definitely. Even if a few thousand people up and left, which I don't think that many would, it wouldn't even make a dent/
