So this is my last LJ (cross)post. I didn't want it to end like this, but with LJ all but declaring war on their own users, it's just no fun anymore. So, about 36 hours from now, I'll delete this journal.

I'm not leaving fandom, at least not yet. I will still be posting at my Dreamwidth account [personal profile] beer_good_foamy (which by then should be a complete backup of this LJ, and I'm working on getting all links right, though that might take a while) and at Archive Of Our Own. I'd love it if you joined me there.

If not, then I just want to leave this note to say thank you to everyone. I've had some of the best times I've ever had online right here, whether reading or writing fic, discussing the intricacies of how Ingmar Bergman relates to "This Year's Girl/Who Are You?" or all-penguin AUs and rocket launcher fic, personal discussions and supreme silliness. I've laughed, cried, raged and giggled at LJ. Thank you, one and all, for listening, and for all that you've shown me and shared with me. I will really miss this place.

"Ah-ha-ha. Ever get the feeling you've been chea'ed?"

I just spent 20 minutes trying to add the following reply on the LJ News post (http://news.livejournal.com/151767.html):

Since I won't sign anything where I have no way of knowing what it is I'm signing, I'm commenting through (OpenID/Twitter).

Please note that in accordance with part 3 Article 10.1 of the Federal Act of the Russian Federation No. 149-ФЗ the Administration shall keep the following information and provide it upon the lawful request of the competent authorities regardless of Users will
I am not a Russian citizen. What is Article 10.2 of the Federal Act of the Russian Federation No. 149-ФЗ? Please provide me with a full text of it before I agree to it.

Mark Content estimated by Russian legislation as inappropriate for children (0 −18) as “adult material” by using Service functions.
I am not a Russian citizen. Please provide me with a comprehensive list of content that Russian legislation considers inappropriate for children, and which of these LJ intends to inforce.

ATTENTION: this translation of the User Agreement is not a legally binding document. The original User Agreement, which is valid, is located at the following address: http://www.livejournal.com/legal/tos-ru.bml.
I am not a Russian citizen. If the English translation is not valid, why do I need to sign it? What's in the Russian version that we're not told in the translation?

Unfortunately, LJ won't let me sign in through OpenID, and when I created a Twitter account and signed on using that, I was told my reply was marked as spam.

(Remember that when LJ was first bought by the Russians, we were told that "Complaints will not be accepted. They'll get used to it. Anything sent in English is spam.")

So, fuck LJ.
beer_good_foamy: (GoT-slap)
So, yeah, once more around the old block.

LJ has been officially (except without official word, obviously, because that would require LJ to actually talk to their users) moved to Russia, and our postings here are now subject to Russian law. Read this roundup by [personal profile] rahirah about what's going on and how you can back up your LJ:

http://rahirah.livejournal.com/695706.html
http://rahirah.dreamwidth.org/681756.html

I'm beer_good_foamy on Dreamwidth as well, feel free to add me if you haven't already. I'll keep cross-posting to LJ for now, but you never know.

PS - does anyone know what happens if you import comments from LJ on existing DW posts? I assume they don't overwrite the DW comments?

So, who's up for a DW-only comment ficathon after New Year's, to celebrate the awesomeness of comment headers? Any ideas on where to advertise one?

So LJ is back(ish), eh? That means I get to rec another great podfic version of one of my fics, arranged by [livejournal.com profile] sl_podcast and read by Lindsey Zana. This time it's the Holtz ficlet Express Delivery, listen to it here!

Also, here's a drabble for [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday, loosely inspired by the last few days of LJ troubles. I don't know if this is the first Buffy/Angry Birds crossover ever.

Killing Pigs Is Hard

The building trembled as something smashed into the outside wall. Andrew winced and felt his face, which was already starting to swell up. "Do you think I'll get a black eye?"

"Hope springs eternal." Spike checked that their fragile cargo hadn't been damaged in the mad rush for cover.

"Oh. Cool." Again, the house shook and groaned under the bombardment.

"These eggs had better be worth stealing," Spike muttered. A red-feathered demonic bird crashed through the wall and landed on the floor, where it lay glaring at them. "Willow might have bloody told us their mommies would get this angry."

Heads up

Just to remind people I'm [personal profile] beer_good_foamy if anyone from LJ wants to friend me "grant me access" (god, that sounds dirty) and to post this article.

In other news, are you seriously telling me nobody's made a Buffyverse vid out of this song?

Joining the chorus: Please don't auto-share my stuff to Facebook or Twitter or anything like that without asking me first. Reccing within LJ is fine, of course.

Could someone please buy LJ a shiny yo-yo, so they don't get bored and spend their time coming up with functions that just make things worse?

ETA 1: The Greasemonkey script will get rid of the Twitter/Facebook buttons in your own browser, but it won't stop anyone else from automatically (or by mistake) reposting your posts or comments on your posts.

ETA 2: And no tags with slashes in them work anymore. Though I suppose it's possible that Buffy/Angel, being the only acceptable canon OTP, still works.

For those who haven't seen it, it seems LiveJournal is once again in deep shit with massive layoffs etc. So just in case I've backed up my LJ to my rarely-used InsaneJournal:

http://beer-good.insanejournal.com/

For instructions on how to back your journal up, see [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs post here and [livejournal.com profile] antennapedia's post here.

I don't know just how much of an emergency this is, but I guess we'll find out. If I'm there in the morning, baby, you'll know I've survived.

I'm not crying wolf, but everyone should at least be aware of this: LJ has been sold to a Russian company. They've set up [livejournal.com profile] lj_2008 to communicate with us. Go read.

That is all for now.

Well, it's that time of year again. December means holiday icons. *points to Richard Wilkins in a festive mood*

Also, re the adult flagging thing. Cut because I'm not sure if anyone really cares, but there's a Ramones song in here )

Also: huge thanks to whoever sent me a virtual cup of cocoa! Mmmm.

Hey, lookit this!

Big thanks to all who voted!

And nothing says "Celebrate good times, come on!" like watching Angel getting beaten up by Al Bundy. Yes, the esteemed Mr Boreanaz once made his debut on "Married With Children". His character dated a blonde (of course) and ended up beaten to a pulp (as always). Typecast? Whaddyamean? Make sure you watch to the end.

Daddy, beat him up. )

In other news, it's now been... 13 hours and 24 minutes since it was midnight in California. Why do I point this out? Because LJ/6A promised a post explaining all this kerfuffle before then. Needless to say, there still hasn't been a peep from them. Back up your journals, people.

Right, so I'm beer_good over at Insane Journal. Link. I haven't been keeping track of who's gone over there, so if you want to friend me, I'd be very grateful!

No, I'm not moving for now, it's basically just a placeholder, but to completely contradict what I said before, I'm no longer ruling it out completely.

Why? )

EDIT: It seems 6Apart might be in bigger trouble than just this! According to this article, LiveJournal's creator is leaving the company and 6A's CEO is, according to the reporter, considered "inept" to deal with the company.

The only reason that Six Apart management hasn't announced it, the source adds, is that they can't figure out how to spin it. Here, let me help, guys! It's bad. And Fitzpatrick's departure is just the tip of Six Apart's reality-denying iceberg.

Enough ranting. Here's the trailer for a movie I saw last week and which you should all check out if you have a chance. Seriously. It's like if a young John Landis and a young Peter Jackson had made a movie together. KILLER SHEEP, ffs.
