LJ has been officially (except without official word, obviously, because that would require LJ to actually talk to their users) moved to Russia, and our postings here are now subject to Russian law. Read this roundup by rahirah about what's going on and how you can back up your LJ:

PS - does anyone know what happens if you import comments from LJ on existing DW posts? I assume they don't overwrite the DW comments?

Hi, do not wish to be creepy. I'm reading through friends of friends as LJ catastrophes always have a morbid fascination for me. Anyway, hello, and I can tell you that if you import your LJ comments to DW, DW will merge the two. Nothing gets overwritten. Though I wouldn't be surprised if you have some trouble with it right now as their servers are probably being slammed (again, you won't loose anything, but don't be surprised if it stops on you in the middle. Just run the import again if that happens.)

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I'll hold off for a couple of days - wouldn't want the DW staff to have to spend New Year's fanning the servers to keep them from overheating. :)

It's incredible. They have the WORST PR team ever. (I forget, have you watched Community? Greendale comparisons abound.)

I'll keep cross-posting too (heck, they've probably downloaded everything they need anyway), but I like having a back-up.

I've watched it enough to get the reference. :) (I keep meaning to watch the whole thing, but I'm waiting for it to show up on Netflix...)

Maybe we should all post some Trump/Putin slash and see what happens. But remember years ago when LJ made their terms of what was acceptable content really fucking vague, and we were told not to worry and just trust them?

There are a LOT of things on US/UK Netflix that are nowhere to be found on the Swedish one. But at least we pay the same for it! Sometimes I miss the days before digitalisation supposedly made everything so easily available, when all you had was a video store with ten times the selection of Netflix.

Very true. But the actual people in charge are shady.
