So, by a few minutes' margin, I managed to pull off the Twisting The Hellmouth 20 For 2020 Challenge - write 20 100-word crossover drabbles of Buffyverse characters doing something for the first time. Some of these are probably better than others, but I'm embarrassingly proud of some of them. I mean, how often do you get to write 100 words of dialogue in iambic pentameter?

I should note that these are all supposed to be in good fun, but my muse gets weird sometimes. Also, spoilers for Doctor Who 12.05 and Rise of Skywalker if you're still behind.

So, here we go:

The first time Angel felt welcome. Crossover: Monty Python's Flying Circus )

The first time Anyanka played Cupid. Crossover: Frozen )

The first time Jasmine got a job. Crossover: Rick And Morty )

The first time Amy was on TV. Crossover: Planet Earth )

The first time Moloch The Corruptor found his soulmate. Crossover: 2001 - A Space Odyssey )

The first time Drusilla ate a Watcher. Crossover: Jeeves & Wooster )

The first time Willow talked down an active shooter. Crossover: The West Wing )

The first time Buffy needed hearing protection while slaying. Crossover: Wynonna Earp )

The first time Dawn performed emergency surgery. Crossover: Calvin & Hobbes )

The first time Willow had a Tinder threesome hookup. Crossover: Orphan Black )

The first time the Buffybot travelled in time. Crossover: Terminator )

The first time Xander actually felt chosen. Crossover: Dracula 2020 )

The first time Faith lost a race on purpose. Crossover: Brooklyn Nine-Nine )

The first time Dawn slew in iambic pentameter. Crossover: Macbeth )

The first time Andrew wrote a self-insert. Crossover: Doctor Who (spoilers for 12.05!) )

The first time Mr Gordo got to be a hero. Crossover: The Muppet Show - Pigs In Space )

The first time Giles and Ethan had a couple of watchers. Crossover: Good Omens )

The first time Lilah defended the innocent. Crossover: The Good Place )

The first time Giles surrendered to nostalgia. Crossover: Untitled Goose Game )

The first time Buffy explored the galaxy. Crossover: Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker )

So I'm trying to do something for this Twisting the Hellmouth challenge, writing 20 crossover drabbles where Buffyverse characters get to do something they've never done before. But I wanted to post this first because after the other day, I had to write it. (Now I just have to do 19 more...)

Fandom: Angel/Monty Python's Flying Circus

Feel welcome (For Terry Jones)
Bromley, 1970
Angel had no business going into a café. He didn't belong among people, he was a freak, he belonged in the alley eating rodents. But it was raining so hard.

"Right, luv, what'll it be?", the somewhat rough-looking woman behind the counter asked. "We have egg and spam, egg bacon and spam, egg bacon sausage and spam, spam bacon sausage and spam, spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam, and strawberry tart." She paused. "With some rat in it."

Angel smiled for the first time in decades. "I'll have a slice with a lot of rat in it."

OK, so I entered Doctor Who as one of my fandoms for [community profile] intoabar, knowing there was one character I didn't think I could write but figuring what were the odds… Oh well. I hope I did Clara justice here.

Previous [community profile] intoabar challenges I've written:
A Product of Its Time (Angel walks into a bar and meets... Steve Harrington!)
How To Drain Your Flagon (Wesley Wyndam-Pryce walks into a bar and meets... Khal Drogo!)
Untimely (Drusilla walks into a bar and meets... Zoe Washburne!)
The Scrying of Lot 48 (Willow Rosenberg walks into a bar and meets... Ron Swanson!)
I Will Face My Fear (Dale Cooper walks into a bar and meets... Riley Finn!)

Title: Heaven Is Hell for Bad People
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffyverse (post-"Not Fade Away")/Doctor Who (post-"Hell Bent")
Characters/Pairing: Spike, Clara Oswald, background Buffy/Spike
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~1300
Summary: Spike walks into a bar and meets… Clara Oswald!

The band in Heaven, they play my favorite song
They play it once again, they play it all night long
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens

- Talking Heads

The Ramones got on stage just as he stepped inside the bar, and they were just as great as always. )
beer_good_foamy: (GoT-slap)
So I dealt with the latest Game of Thrones episode the only way I know how: With a cracky crossover. OK, maybe not quite literally crack but... well, you know. It's not the first time I've had people drop in on the GoT-verse.

Title: In The Empire Business
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Game of Thrones/Breaking Bad
Rating: PG13
Word count: 275
Summary: Shortly after the Battle of Winterfell, a minor lord has a business proposition for Jon and Dany.

So now what? )

So I always try to post a holiday fic around this time of year, but I was just starting to come to terms with not being able to come up with one this year, especially since I still have to get my whichwillow fic done in the next couple of days. Then it occurred to me - there are two classic holiday stories I've never used in fic: The Night Before Christmas and A Christmas Carol. So I figured why not mash'em both up and also make it Faith/Willow because why not.

So, happy whatever everyone!

Title: We Three Ghosts Of Accident Are
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffy, post-series/A Christmas Carol/The Night Before Christmas
Pairing: Faith/Willow
Rating: PG13
Word count: 321
Summary: 'Twas the night before Christmas, and Faith got a visit from some ghosts. That's OK, Slayers know how to handle the undead.

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the camp
Not a demon was stirring, not even a vamp
But lo! In the bedroom, an energy swirled
A figure appeared, and a loud voice unfurled:

"Behold, I am the ghost of Christmas pa-"

This year's [community profile] intoabar challenge threw me a bit at first. But I think I like where this ended up. It's been way too long since I got to use the Let's Mess With Angel tag.

Previous fics I've written for this comm:
How To Drain Your Flagon (Wesley Wyndam-Pryce walks into a bar and meets... Khal Drogo!)
Untimely (Drusilla walks into a bar and meets... Zoe Washburne!)
The Scrying of Lot 48 (Willow Rosenberg walks into a bar and meets... Ron Swanson!)
I Will Face My Fear (Dale Cooper walks into a bar and meets... Riley Finn!)

Title: A Product Of Its Time
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffyverse/Stranger Things
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~1150
Summary: Angel walks into a bar and meets… Steve Harrington! A tale of heartbreak, nostalgia and hairspray follows.

He was passing through someplace called Hawkins, Indiana, and he could have sworn they were playing the new Barry Manilow song when he walked past the Hideaway Pub )
beer_good_foamy: (Buffy)
Here's a kind of a crossover; inspired by the latest Cloverfield entry, but not technically in canon with or requiring any knowledge of that 'verse (in as much as anything can be canon in a 'verse where every entry is an AU to the last one). So basically, if you want to read it as a Godzilla or Pacific Rim crossover, or just assume that giant kaiju can exist within the Buffyverse, that should work too.

Title: Working in the Pain Mine
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffyverse, post-series
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~1500
Summary: A giant lizard monster is rampaging across the land. Five Slayers ponder life as they work in shifts to kill it.

If it bleeds, we can kill it.
- "Dutch", Predator

Working in the Pain Mine

Buffy kept feeling like she should, well, appreciate this more. Not to disparage all the other apocalypses she's stopped, but taking down (well, potentially) a mile-high lizard monster wading across the Pacific to stomp the western seaboard? That's a classic on a whole other level.  )
beer_good_foamy: (Willow-death)
Here's a fic for More Joy Day!

Back when I signed up for the Which Willow Ficathon, one of the prompts I picked was "Willow is involved with a vampire/werewolf/witch from another show/book/movie." I ended up doing a different prompt which ended up as The Bottom of the Garden, but I did get an idea for the other prompt that I didn't want to waste. So here goes. I think it's rather sweet.

Title: Crumbs
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffy/Grimm Brothers Fairytales; set post-series
Pairing: pre-Willow/The Witch
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~1100
Summary: While hanging out in a chatroom, Willow runs into a somewhat older witch. Rather a lot older, in fact. But as it turns out, they have some old antagonists in common.

She lurked a lot. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of actual witches in the chatroom (what the devil is a technopagan anyway?), and the ones who were only reminded her of how much the craft had changed since her day. )
beer_good_foamy: (DALEK)
Right, it's been a while since I posted anything. So here's the first of two fics for this year's [livejournal.com profile] spook_me challenge. The other one should be up sometime later tonight if I can just get it to play (not very) nice.

This is a crack crossover I've had in my head for years, and figured this was as good a time as any to write it.

Title: In Which Pooh Discovers A Blue Box
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Winnie The Pooh/Doctor Who (Tenth Doctor)
Rating: PG
Word count: ~1800
Warnings: ***Character death***
Author's note: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] spook_me challenge "Shapeshifter".
Summary: The Doctor is delighted to land in the Hundred Acre Woods. Well, he would be. But what sort of trouble will the Doctor's arrival bring for Pooh and his little friends?

"You made a bear!"
"I didn't mean to..."
"UNDO IT! UNDO IT!"

- Buffy the Vampire Slayer

On this particular day Pooh was out walking after having played Pooh-Sticks all morning, when he came to an open place in the middle of the forest, and in the middle of this place was a large blue box, and, from within the box, there came a loud vworping-noise. )
beer_good_foamy: (GoT-slap)
Title: The Rugged Pyrrhus, or Holiday By Mistake
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Game of Thrones/Withnail & I (GoT season 6)
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~900
Author's notes: Come on, GoT casts Richard E Grant as a bitter hammy actor and nobody writes a Withnail & I crossover? You thought I was just going to walk right by that?
Summary: Izembaro, the arrogant leader of a small Braavosi theatre troupe specializing in bad rhymes and fart jokes, sometimes gets very drunk and claims to be from a city called Lundon. Nobody really believes him. But his leading lady remembers that one time when he went off on a long soliloquy on stage...

“Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.”
- Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead

I'm a trained actor reduced to the status of a bum! )
beer_good_foamy: (Willow-death)
Title: The Scrying of Lot 48
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Parks and Recreation (post-series and season 2-ish, respectively)
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~1300
Author's notes: Buffy fans unfamiliar with Ron Swanson can get a quick introduction here.
Summary: Written for [livejournal.com profile] intoabar and the prompt: Willow Rosenberg goes into a bar and meets... Ron Swanson!

Ron Swanson kept coming to this bar for three things: their steaks, which were the best in Pawnee, IN; their selection of single malt whisky; and that the staff knew that he wanted to eat in peace. )
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
Title: Untimely
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Fandom/timeline: Buffy/Firefly, set around Serenity
Word Count: ~900
Warnings: Canon character death
Summary: Written for the [community profile] intoabar challenge: Drusilla goes into a bar and meets… Zoe Washburne!

"In moments of great stress, every life form that exists gives out a tiny subliminal signal. This signal simply communicates an exact and almost pathetic sense of how far that being is from the place of his birth."
- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

She comes to bars for the people, navigating mostly by Sight, as if age has finally dulled all her other senses to blissfully vague background noise. )

Guys, the Three-Sentence Ficathon is on again! I'm going to look through it and hunt for writable prompts tomorrow, but for now, there's this:

Continuing to exorcise some long-standing obscure crossover ideas, here's one I'm sure someone has already thought of, but I've never seen it: A crossover between Buffy and Zork. Yes, Zork, the original text adventure. See, children, once upon a time, before yer Gamecubes and yer Playstations and yer fancy 8-bit entertainment systems, video games consisted of a blinking cursor and words like "inventory", "e" and "xyzzy". And as we all know from watching Buffy, old monsters don't just go away.

They Are Likely To

"Empowering the potentials," the First Evil said to Buffy as the übervamps charged them. "Clever, but you forgot something. Vampires can see in the dark." It snapped its non-existent fingers, and every torch in the cave went out.

There was complete, impenetrable darkness.

Panic.

Munching.

When the lights came on again, every single übervamp was gone. The unharmed girls looked around, happy but a little disappointed.

"My übervamps!" The First Evil just stared. “W-what did you do? Some kind of spell?”

Buffy frowned. “That wasn’t us.”

“It’s obvious, guys,” Amanda said. “It was pitch black…?”

Far below, a grue burped.
beer_good_foamy: (Buffy)
Here’s a crossover I’ve thought about for a while. This is post-series Buffy crossed with the Flaming Lips song "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Part 1" (lyrics). You don't need to be familiar with the song to read it, but it’s a pop song so you can binge the entirety of this canon in 3 ½ minutes.

Title: All In A Day's Work
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffy/Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~850
Warnings/Notes: Poking fun at national stereotypes.
Characters/Pairing: Buffy, Xander, Yoshimi
Summary: To be fair, Buffy wasn't entirely sure how she was supposed to stop a giant robot about to attack Tokyo. But still, being told someone else would handle it felt a bit weird.

"What, you don't use machine guns in your movies?"
- Charles Bronson to Ingmar Bergman

I'm afraid we cannot guarantee the safety of non-union workers on this task. )

Boy, and here I thought the prompt I got last year for [livejournal.com profile] intoabar was hard... I expect this fic will be jossed when Twin Peaks season 3 comes along a year or so from now.

This isn't the first Buffy/Twin Peaks crossover I've written, either, but it is kind of in continuity with the others.
A Code Waiting To Be Broken (Faith/Audrey)
Five People Who Didn't Know They Were In A Crossover (Cooper)

Title: I Will Face My Fear
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Prompt: Agent Dale Cooper goes into a bar and meets... Riley Finn!
Fandoms: Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Twin Peaks, set in early s5 of Buffy, and consequently about 10 years after the s2 finale of Twin Peaks.
Characters/Pairings: Riley Finn, Dale Cooper. Riley/Buffy discussed.
Word count: ~1200
Rating/Contents: PG13

This is his true face. Few can see it. The gifted... and the damned.
- MIKE

Agent Finn. Good to meet you. Agent Dale Cooper, FBI. )

So apparently I won something at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards. Specifically, Building Character won for Best Gen. Aw, shucks.

Thanks a lot to everyone involved, and congratulations to all the winners! Some great stuff there, go read now if you haven't already.

Also, just because I can, I have this idea of writing down a few bizarre or obscure crossovers that I could never make myself develop into anything longer. Here's one that people should at least be able to spot:

The Friendly Dark

Susie dreams of tigers, and wakes groaning. Now he's got her doing it. Hobbes is NOT REAL.

She keeps dreaming of tigers. She's heard about this. If you keep dreaming of someone, it means you're in love with them. And she so does not want to marry Calvin.

One day Calvin throws a snowball at her. She catches it in mid-air and sends it back to him hard enough to send him flying. She could swear the stuffed tiger sitting where he stood winks at her.

That night, she dreams of a tiger, and follows it into the desert landscape.
beer_good_foamy: (Bernard - black books)
This one surprised me a bit.

My top 5 fics on AO3 by kudos:

Radio Silence (BtVS/Welcome to Night Vale)
Not that surprising, perhaps, since it's a crossover with a current and quite active fandom. Quite pleased about this. (By the way, that last episode of WTNV... HOLY SHIT. Anyone still not listening to it, what are you waiting for?)

Bernard's Rules (Doctor Who/Black Books)
Again, active fandom. Rather proud of this, there really isn't enough Black Books fic and this is clearly a sign that people want more.

Ms Summers Goes To Washington (BtVS/West Wing)
Noticing a theme of crossovers here?

Get Some Walking In (West Wing)
Zombie fics clearly get the job done too.

If The Dead Rise (Or Not) (BtVS)
Buffy/Faith works on AO3. Speaking of which...

My top 5 fics on AO3 by hits:

I'll Always Opt To Fall Down These Stairs (BtVS)
This one really surprised me. I'm quite happy with this Buffy/Faith fic, but it's gotten a LOT more hits than most of my other stories. Is there something about AO3 that attracts fans of wingfic and/or Regina Spektor? And should I feel bad that the hit/kudo ratio is a lower than some other fics?

Dawn of The Dead (BtVS)
No surprise there. This is my personal favourite too. Sometimes I want to delete it just so I can write vamp!Dawn again.

Dawn Summers Solves Things With SCIENCE! (BtVS)
...And clearly, Dawn is popular over at AO3. Take that, EW!

Radio Silence (BtVS/Welcome to Night Vale)

Ms Summers Goes To Washington (BtVS/West Wing)
As above.

And I still have a bunch of fics I've never uploaded to AO3. Including most of my drabbles. Woe.
beer_good_foamy: (DALEK)
Hey, I just realised that they announced the Willowy Goodness Awards, and my fic "Total Perspective Vortex" won two awards. Thanks a lot! Please make sure to check out the other winners as well.

pretty banners )

And in completely unrelated news, I just watched the first couple of episodes of The 100 just because when I first read about it, I vowed to write this fic. I don't actually hate the show, but hey, you don't say no to a plotbunny like this one.

If you haven't watched the show, this should be readable anyway with this summary: 97 years after nuclear holocaust killed everyone on Earth, the surviving humans all live on a space station in orbit... and they just sent 100 convicted teenage delinquents down to the surface to see if the radiation kills them. With predictable and very CW-does-Lost-ish results.

Title: It Is Defended
Fandom: The 100/Surprise crossover
Warning: Character death
Word Count: ~280
Summary: What is that creature stalking them?

Make sure you tell them this... )
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
So, yeah, this was inevitable, I guess. This is partly for [livejournal.com profile] dragonyphoenix, who does a great job of keeping the fandom alive and kicking, and also because my muse has been looking for a way to cross Buffy with Welcome to Night Vale and the Gentlemen fit the bill far too well for me to not write it.

Title: Radio Silence
Author: Beer Good ([personal profile] beer_good_foamy)
Fandom: Buffy/Welcome To Night Vale. Spoilers for ep 30 of WTNV, and season 4 of BtVS.
Rating: PG13
Word count: ~1500
Characters/Pairings: Cecil/Carlos, Dana (Night Vale)
Warnings: Violence, character death
Summary: The Gentlemen drop by Night Vale. This poses something of a problem for a radio host who depends on his voice to communicate. Not to mention for the people in town who aren't too keen on having their hearts cut out.

This is a recorded message, set to play automatically in case there's more than one minute of dead air. We are currently having technical difficulties of an unspecified nature. Please stand by. Do not be alarmed. )
