OK, still trying to put down some thoughts on the Twin Peaks finale, but I might as well post it so I can get on with my life.

And it's with mixed feelings. Because I loved season 3 to little pieces, and that fucking ending simply won't leave me alone. So this will get long and not entirely coherent as I try to piece together what The Return and Fire Walk With Me and all that it seems to do, before I try to let it sit for a while and then do a rewatch.

The past dictates the future )

So apparently the author of My Immortal has come forward and is bringing out a memoir.

In other news, I'm trying to piece together thoughts on the Twin Peaks finale, which was incredible and frustrating and thought-provoking and hilarious and left me a sobbing wreck and ... there'll be a longer post as soon as I get an hour to beat it into readable shape. In the meantime, here are two (spoilery) articles worth reading:
NYT: "We haven't seen that before" - a critics' conversation
Variety: The story ends - forever?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy fucking shit, Lynch and Frost have been slowly building for 15 hours and now they're unleashing on us. That was one of the best hours of television I've ever seen. We don't deserve this. There's no way we've earned this, but I'm going to lap it all up.

One hundred percent. One hundred percent.
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
...may be the single weirdest hour of television ever produced. Seriously. If the first seven episodes were David Lynch not giving a fuck about what people expect and doing whatever he wanted, then this is him just letting go and not even thinking about what he wants but just disintegrating his ideas into pure patterns of light and sound. It makes Eraserhead look like Bicycle Thieves. It's beautiful, it's horrifying, and it's... rrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeally fucking weird, and somehow still advances the plot more than maybe any other episode in the entire series, and I love it, I love it, I love it.

And it is, indeed, Twin Peaks and David Lynch in all its messy glory.

I've just watched the first four hours. Under the cut are thoughts about 3.01-3.04 (or the first four hours, apparently the episodes are subdivided differently on different channels?) There are no specific spoilers for anything beyond the first two seasons and Fire Walk With Me, but spoilery discussions are welcome in the comments if you're already caught up.

I can't believe this is actually happening. And that Lynch can completely creep me out with just a 1-minute trailer.

The cast of Twin Peaks weigh in: "Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like..."

Boy, and here I thought the prompt I got last year for [livejournal.com profile] intoabar was hard... I expect this fic will be jossed when Twin Peaks season 3 comes along a year or so from now.

This isn't the first Buffy/Twin Peaks crossover I've written, either, but it is kind of in continuity with the others.
A Code Waiting To Be Broken (Faith/Audrey)
Five People Who Didn't Know They Were In A Crossover (Cooper)

Title: I Will Face My Fear

This is his true face. Few can see it. The gifted... and the damned.

From [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly:

1. Leave a comment to this post - specifically saying that you would like a letter.
2. I will give you a letter. (If you don't want a letter but feel like commenting anyway, feel free.)
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.

I got B! So, five off the top of my head:

Vague spoilers for BtVS, Twin Peaks, The Wire, Foucault's Pendulum, Dr Horrible )

I hope everyone's taken a look at the Fandom Love (mini)Fic-A-Thon? Lots of prompts in all sorts of fandoms, to be filled by a one-sentence (or at least very short) fic. Here are the ones I've come up with so far:

Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] janie_tangerine, The Dark Tower, I'll love you with all the madness in my soul.
The Dark Tower, Eddie/Susannah )

Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] catbirdfish, Dollhouse - genesis
Dollhouse, Ivy )

Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] duh_i_read, Twin Peaks- fear is here to stay, love is here for a visit
Twin Peaks, Audrey )

Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni, Jossverse - I'm five years ago and three thousand miles away
AtS, Wesley )

Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] catbirdfish, Jossverse - after everything that’s happened, how can the world still be so beautiful? because it is.
Firefly, Zoe )

Here's my episode of season 2 of the audio drama Buffy Between The Lines! (OK, only half the episode is mine, it was co-written with [livejournal.com profile] redrikki who did a fantastic job on her half.)

Listen to it here.

What's it about, you ask? Well, the season takes place between s2 and s3 of BtVS, but this is pretty much a standalone episode, so if you haven't listened to any of the previous episodes (though you should) it shouldn't stop you from hearing this one. But as for the plot, it's two intertwined stories in one: Faith's road to Sunnydale via New Orleans pre-s3 (that's [livejournal.com profile] redrikki's bit) and the story of Richard Wilkins from 1897 to 1998 (that's my bit). Which was fun, since I got to include some of my favourite mayor-related fanwanks, do some character study, write Richard/Edna Mae, and sneak in at least two blink-and-you'll-miss-them crossovers.

And as usual, I'm both awed by and grateful to [livejournal.com profile] sl_podcast and all the actors and crew on the show. You guys rock.

I finally got around to finishing this one. Well, it's as finished as it's ever going to be. Someday I will write the big Buffyverse/Twin Peaks explain-everything crossover, but for now, this is a standalone.

Anyway, all you crazy kids with your Supernatural and Harry Potter crossovers, get off my lawn - I’m going old skool on your asses with this pairing: Faith Lehane of the Buffyverse and Audrey Horne of Twin Peaks. This was originally a request from [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds; her take on it is here, mine is below.

Title: A Code Waiting To Be Broken
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: ~1100
Fandom: Buffyverse/Twin Peaks. Roughly Angel s2, so about 10 years after the Twin Peaks finale.
Pairing: Faith/Audrey (vague allusions to Faith/Buffy and Audrey/Cooper)
Disclaimer: These characters are the property of Joss Whedon, David Lynch, Mark Frost and their various production companies. If I make money off of them, feel free to toss me in the same jail as the characters.
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds: "Faith. Audrey. Prison. Shower."

"The good Dale is in the lodge and can't leave." (Annie Blackburn)

Through the darkness of future past... )
