Also, another attempt at Dollhouse fic, written for [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr's adjective month. This started out as a silly drabble and then got a bit more serious.

OK, so with the news that Dollhouse s2 will have guest spots for casting spoilers )

Just me, then? Phew.

I mean... just think of the philosophical transhumanistic implications. It would be, like, really deep. Yeah.

Hey, look! Trail of the Pbuffalo got nominated in round 6 of [livejournal.com profile] rwsawards. Huge thanks, as always!

Also, two more short pieces for [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr's Jammin' July month. They're kind of depressing, but at least one of them's my first Dollhouse piece. There may even be some sort of thematic unity here, I'm not sure. What can I say, the challenge is to base fics on songs, and most great songs come - in Joss's words - from pain.

Title: Passive
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 100
Prompt: 128 – female artists; incorporating lyrics from "He War" by Cat Power.
Fandom/Timeline: Dollhouse, "True Believer"
Characters: Mellie

Know thyself )

Title: Spartan
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Prompt: 129 – free-for-all; incorporating lyrics from ”Simple Twist Of Fate” by Bob Dylan
Fandom/Timeline: Buffy, s7
Characters/Pairing: Eve (the potential, not the Angel character)
Warning: Canon events.
Summary: A lonely night at a familiar motel.

Stopped into a strange hotel )

Yay, we have yet another brand new Joss canon to play with! Various rambly thoughts on the first Dollhouse episode under the cut. Not proper meta, though I'm sure there'll be some of that in the future too; it looks to be an interesting show.

Speak out of turn again and I will scold you. )

ETA: One thing that struck me about the Case of the week (COTW): it's not exactly the most exciting case, but it works, and it's interesting that it's very similar to the one used in the pilot episode of The Shield, which I always thought of as the lost Mutant Enemy show. The case itself doesn't offer a lot of ethical conundrums; nobody's going to ask if saving a little girl from a child molester is really the right thing to do. But as in The Shield, where it's used to show us just what kind of man Vic Mackey is and what he'll do to solve a case, the morally simple COTW is used to highlight how the people trying to solve the case work. The plot serves the characters, not the other way around.

VIC: Good cop and bad cop left town; I'm a different kind of cop.

Just thought I'd post this, for those on my flist who don't check Whedonesque religiously:

The bad news is that Dollhouse won't be airing until January, as a mid-season replacement. (Y'know, like that other show that came out 11 years ago... um, what's it called...)

The good news is that FOX have ordered 13 episodes (though I have no idea just how binding that order is). The official showrunners will be Sarah Fain and Elizabeth Craft - previously on Angel, The Shield (yay!) and The Women's Murder Club - but... well, let's just quote Joss:
Actually, I never confirmed a 13 episode order. But I will tomorrow. (which is in one minute -- oh. It's now.) I've spoken with the Fox brass and it's all going to be pretty exciting. As you shall read...

As for running the show, yes of course I'm running it, it's my baby, but one needs co-runners, cohorts, cohabitants, a Sundance (or two) to my Butch, a Tango to my Cash, A the-guy-with-the-nose-in-Weekend-at-Bernie's to my the-guy-from-Pretty-in-Pink-in-Weekend-at-Bernies. And those of you who underestimate Liz and Sarah remind me of the demons of the week who laughed at tiny Buffy.

The only thing that excites me as much as our staff is our cast. Seeing them work just makes ideas blossom from our writer minds (SPOILER ALERT for The Fountain) like little clovery flowers out of conquistadors (END Of SPOILER ALERT and seriously, you should see that movie. It rocks.) And Eliza can't turn off the awesome. I mean it. The army is sending in tanks.

See you on the internet. Then on TV, in theaters, and of couse in the funny papers. It's a good year. Bye-ee! -j.
joss
ETA: Another very interesting Joss interview.

It's still FOX, even with new management; apparently Kevin Reilly who's President of Entertainment at FOX right now is the same guy who... oh heck, I'll just copy and paste again, this time from wikipedia:
Early in his career at NBC, Reilly supervised Law & Order in its first season and developed ER. (...) He was responsible for shepherding some of television’s top shows, such as the pilot for The Sopranos, and the NBC comedies Just Shoot Me and NewsRadio.

Before rejoining NBC in May 2004, Reilly served as President of Entertainment for FX, where he developed and launched the cable network's first original drama, The Shield. He also developed and programmed Nip/Tuck and the Denis Leary show Rescue Me for the network. [1]

At NBC, Reilly's vocal support of The Office helped it survive its low-rated first season. [2] He is credited with developing hits such as My Name Is Earl, Heroes, 30 Rock, and Friday Night Lights.[3] Despite having received a new three-year contract at NBC in February 2007, he and NBC mutually agreed to terminate the partnership in late May 2007, and Reilly departed soon after.[4]. Approximately one month later, Reilly was hired as President of Entertainment at FOX.
As good as that sounds... it's still FOX, and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. But right now? I'm pretty excited. Joss is back on TV where he belongs. I can has January nao plz?
