Stuff the second: icon for still_grrr's "Bring Out Your Dead" month. Sappy, I know, but I think we've already established that I'm a bit of a softy sometimes.


Stuff the third: The big LJ emigration. I ain't goin' nowhere.

Over the past few weeks, a lot of people stood united. As someone who's fairly new to the whole thing, I found it incredibly moving. And while a mass exodus to greatestjournal or insanejournal or wallstreetjournal might look like a good idea on paper, it feels a bit like retreating and dividing strength to me - even IF most people were to emigrate to the same place with all flists, comms and links in place, which feels unlikely (and even if the new place didn't go the same way as LJ two years from now...)

So no more runnin'. Misbehave. Join fandom_counts. Join fan_investors. And, well, keep on keepin' on. To quote one of the many icons that's been making the rounds - "Fuck not with fandom, for fandom fucks back". Not off. Big business is here to stay and we're not getting out of its belly, but I kinda like the idea of us giving it salmonella now and then.

Running away, boycotts, the like... seems lame. I mean when there are 13+ million people on LJ, a few people leaving is not making any kind of difference.

Last time everyone got uppity, over the adverts I think, a lot of GJs were created, mainly to reserve our user names there in case. Then they got very little posted in them until last week.

I honestly expect that the same thing is likely to happen this time around as well - especially as no-one that is in my circle of friends and friends' friends were actually affected - at least not this time!

I really don't think there is any such thing as a mass emigration ... people just want to know they have an alternate spot to congregate & find each other (& post fic and such) if it's ever needed.

And many people, with the ongoing DDoS issues, are having trouble posting anything at LJ, which is one reason there's so much activity at GJ and IJ at the moment!

BTW, I loved your "I object!" post but somehow managed to miss saying so at the time!

Actually, I have no proof that this is rule number 1 -- it might be 5, or 12 -- but it sounds good to me.
