Then, a question especially for US folks: can someone explain to me the appeal of Mary Kate Olsen, apart from the fact that she used to be jailbait a couple of years ago? She just joined the cast of my current favourite TV series, Weeds, and they're promoting it as if she's the lovechild of Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman. I don't get it. She's passably pretty with enough make-up, but judging from her first episode she can't act at all. Why can't smart, ever so slightly anti-establishment TV shows remain like that, without celebrity guests? At least Paris Hilton only got one episode on VM, not ten... ETA: I mean, I get that she has a fanbase, even though I don't get why. I'm just surprised that it's the same fanbase as a very adult dark comedy.

Oh well. The last-episode-but-for-the-epilogue of "Elves, Gremlins and Eskimoes" is almost done. Plus, obviously there had to be a Rock on Faith challenge at facets_of_faith just a couple of days after I posted a few fics about Faith and rock'n'roll... so I guess I'll just have to write another. Hell, there are birthdays coming up and I've never written Faith/Willow before.

Well I'm a US folk and I've got no clue at all... I liked her and Ashley when they did their Olsen and Olsen Mystery Agency show-a-majigger when I was... oh... 10. But since then... no idea

That's pretty much the image I had of her too. And Weeds isn't exactly a show for 10-year-olds. *shrugs*

Not sure, she's not nearly as trashy as Paris though. There's a bit more respectibility for her and her sister. No clue on the acting though, as the last I saw of her doing that she was 2. I personally am excited about Weeds regardless, I can't wait for the next season esp since the way they left it off was well... Cruel.

I don't know how they ever got past their first show. They were the ugliest toddlers EVER. Once they got older they were cute enough to attract the tweeners, who don't know good acting from bad, anyway.

I haven't seen the show. I've got too much on my plate to start up with a new fandom, and it drives me crazy to see drug use glorified (yeah, I'm a stick in the mud); of course, don't almost all shows glorify *something* that someone thinks is bad? Anyway, I've heard it's very good, so maybe it'll survive a bit of stunt casting without heading downhill.

I'm so with you on the "no time for a new fandom" thing, but in fairness to Weeds, I don't think it glorifies drug use any more than, say, season 6 of Buffy glorifies depression. It's remarkably preach-free, neither really pro nor con but simply... about. Plus, it's hysterically funny. Hopefully it'll stay like that, yeah.

I'll buy that; there are a lot of unsavory things on TV and movies that are just a part of the character's lives and/or plot, rather than being glorified. Besides, I'm always up for hysterically funny.

(And re Faith/Andrew: I can't remember the title or author, but I saw one of those once, set in S7, and it was actually a lot of fun. As long as a writer gets the characters right, just about anything can work.)
