About the appropriation - I had that on my mind the other day. It occured to me, although the story doesn't make this point explicitly (and probably for the better) that each Slayer metaphorically "gives birth to" or "sires" the next Slayer when she dies (also a reminder that childbirth was perhaps the leading cause of death among adult women for centuries); so Kendra is her "childe" and Faith her "grandchilde"...and I don't know where I'm going with that.
