I have to confess that my background in marxism is mostly a college course I took a bunch of years ago and odd bits and pieces I've picked up, so I don't really have any good recommendations. (I re-read the Manifesto recently, though, and oddly relative to what you said above, I found myself even more of a defender of revisionism the more they railed against it... Of course, real-life politics and fictional narrative structures are quite different things.)
