"So..." Jon finally asked. "Now what?" *
Sometimes Michelle has to remind herself that the woman who comes to visit her is her daughter. *
Buffy raised her front right leg to deliver the finishing kick, while the cornered wolf looked about in panic for the rest of its flock. *
Willow woke up on the library floor with a groan of pain, because that's how you wake up after being smashed under a bookcase, or under anything really. *
'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the camp *
From the bridge of the V/S Þor, Árni has seen so many boats by now; from the big cruiseliners that barely notice the waves to tiny open dinghys beating their spray-soaked way west across the ocean, navigating by hope and rumour, desperate for sanctuary. *
It's not that she doesn't trust Root (which is annoying in and of itself) when she says she had the Machine come up with a sweater pattern that makes the wearer invisible to surveillance systems; she just doesn't understand why that means it has to be red and green and feature very odd-looking reindeer. *
Ensi wishes she could love the summer. *
Buffy says Dawn's just looking for an excuse to have two birthdays, which, hey, what would be wrong with that? *
Angel hadn't been to a bar since getting his soul, more than 85 years ago now, and sworn to live alone far away from the temptation that every living, breathing, blood-filled human was to his tortured soul... *
This just wasn't OK, Barry the Wheelbarrow thought several times as the Fat One rolled him along streets that hadn't been repaved in a long time. *

Well, I may be kind of cheating since at least two of these come from three-sentence fics. But an alarming amount of these seem to set up the central conflict/problem/what have you of the fic in the very first sentence. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but they're mostly short, so it's by necessity I guess. 9 out of 10 also introduce the main character by name.
Also, only 1 out of 10 is all-moose AU. I'd been hoping that would be a new thing, but I guess not.
