I agree that they both end with the impression that the company die, but they left me with differnt feelings.
With Angel I felt they were achieving something, their lives (and implied deaths), stood as a monument to the whole year.
With Blackadder, ehe end left me sad and shocked. It was such a waste, but also that Blackadder went over the top with only a pistol. This was true, the officer had a pistol not to kill the enemy, but to shoot anyone who tried to desert. That was the image that stayed with me, and also why so many officers died.
