Yes, I guess the fact also that AtS was total fantasy, with dragons and varous demons coming at them made them more heroic. Our heros are trying to save the world.
With Blackadder it was a war that a lot of people didn't understand, and died without knowing why. Thoughout "Blackadder" they are just trying to stay alive, but the Generals Cheakmate them. Those in athority were playing chess with peoples lives.
I do believe that Joss watched Blackadder, it was brilliant after all! And it was before he gained recognition as a writer.
