I'm actually slightly worried that Whittaker really will be the Sylvester McCoy to Capaldi's Colin Baker if this hiatus causes the show to lose viewers the same way that the 2016 hiatus did.
Seriously, DW has been living in a grey zone between "cancelled" and "on hiatus" for far too long now. Either make the show or don't. But yes, I agree with your second point. If only they'd taken this reboot of the show as an excuse to actually pump out a new, exciting show and tell the haters to go hang, instead of giving us a half-assed season and then tell us to wait and see.
Ooh, is there specific podcasts that you would recommend?
My favourites right now are Buffering The Vampire Slayer and their sister podcast Angel On Top, which go through both series one episode at a time with a pretty fresh perspective. They've also managed to snag some pretty interesting interviews with people on the show, ranging from one-time guest actors to recurring people like Armin Shimerman, Kristine Sutherland, Harry Groener... Plus, songs! Sunnydale Fanfic Club is pretty good too, focussing on giving fans a voice in how they see canon and its various takeoff points for fanworks.
