Which TV shows did you let go of in 2018?
Orange Is The New Black, also a few new ones that I dropped about halfway in. Maniac, Altered Carbon. And of course, The Americans, Ash Vs Evil Dead and UnREAL ended. Sniff.
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2018?
My Brilliant Friend, Penny Dreadful, Barry, Castle Rock, Killing Eve, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Also a couple of hopefully-one-season-only like Sharp Objects, The Terror and Haunting of Hill House.
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2018? Why?
I keep meaning to watch The Deuce and Fargo and it's just not happening.
Which TV show impressed you least in 2018?
Altered Carbon. Seriously, what was that shit? Also Castle Rock which had so much going for it and just seemed to get stuck in trying to NOT tell any recognizable story. Oh, and Britannia came and sank like a stone this year, didn't it?
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2019?
Good Omens, What We Do In The Shadows, His Dark Materials, possibly the new Moomin series? Also, hang on, there's a Name of the Rose TV series?! Oh, and if any of the advertised Whedon series make it to the air this year I guess I'll give them a go.
Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2018 unless things significantly improve?
My steady answer for years now has been "Doctor Who, assuming there are any actual episodes planned for this year". And yet I keep hanging in there by half a fingernail. I liked Thirteen, but the plots this year were severely lacking in imagination. I'm wondering if it's not time for another 15-year break.
Also, Stranger Things, Handmaid's Tale, Westworld and Sabrina. And Penny Dreadful unless someone tells me season 3 picks up a lot?
Which TV shows do you think you’ll never let go of no matter how crappy they get?
Wynonna Earp exists in that realm of serious silliness where it can't really get crappy. I hope.
Your favorite film you watched this year?
Top 10 would probably be Sorry To Bother You, BlacKKKlansman, Border, Paddington 2, The Death of Stalin, Mandy, I Kill Giants, Revenge, Tragedy Girls, and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
Your favorite book read this year?
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, The Stars Are Legion by Kameron Hurley, The Ice-Shirt by William T Vollmann, Jacob's Ladder by Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Aednan by Linnea Axelsson, plus a few more. It was a good year, reading-wise.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
See here.
Your favorite TV show(s) of the year?
Good Place, Crazy Ex Girlfriend (though I haven't gotten around to the new season yet), Wynonna Earp, The Americans, Barry, Killing Eve, My Brilliant Friend.
Your favorite online fandom community of the year?
DW, I suppose.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
None that I can recall?
Your fandom that made an unexpected comeback this year?
Buffy! Thanks to various podcasts and (mostly) lack of comics, I found myself more inspired than in a long time.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Let's say Game of Thrones. Please please please don't fuck up the ending entirely.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
OK, let's face it, the final GoT season is going to suck, but at least it'll be worth discussing.
Stuff I wrote in 2018:
Fic:
Crumbs (BtVS/Hansel & Gretel, Willow/The Witch). While hanging out in a chatroom, Willow runs into a somewhat older witch. Rather a lot older, in fact. But as it turns out, they have some old antagonists in common. AO3
Working In The Pain Mine (BtVS, several Slayers, gen). Five Slayers ponder life and power to change the world as they work in shifts to take down a giant lizard monster. AO3
The Tale of the Wheelbarrow That Thought "The Hell With This" (Stand Still Stay Silent, Barry/Cat-Tank). Barry the Wheelbarrow finally has enough of the abuse the crew heap on him, and decides to go on an adventure of his own. If he happens to rescue the cat-tank along the way, well, all the better. AO3
A Product of Its Time (BtVS/Stranger Things, Angel & Steve, gen). Angel walks into a bar and meets… Steve Harrington! A tale of heartbreak, nostalgia and hairspray follows. AO3
Olly Olly Oxen Free (BtVS, Buffy & Dawn, gen). Dawn knows most of her memories aren't real. But she'd still like to know exactly when they became real. Isn't it weird that the monks just plonked her right into reality with memories so vivid that she honestly can't tell where they end and her real life began? How did that work, exactly? AO3
3 Sentence Ficathon fills (Stand Still Stay Silent, Agent Carter, Star Wars, Person of Interest, West Wing)
We Three Ghosts of Accident Are (BtVS, Willow/Faith) 'Twas the night before Christmas, and Faith got a visit from some ghosts. That's OK, Slayers know how to handle the undead. AO3
Willow's Adventures In Slumberland (BtVS, Willow, gen-ish) What if Willow’s coma in Becoming lasted for weeks, or even months? And what if she got to spend it all in Sunnydale High's library, with access to all knowledge known to man? AO3
Other:
Three... uh, five quick thoughts on the Buffy reboot
I got to be on the Sunnydale Fanfic Club podcast!
Thoughts on the new Halloween movie
Thoughts on Sabrina and Haunting of Hill House

Date: 2019-01-02 12:16 pm (UTC)I'm actually slightly worried that Whittaker really will be the Sylvester McCoy to Capaldi's Colin Baker if this hiatus causes the show to lose viewers the same way that the 2016 hiatus did.
(and I really don't want to give the "SJWs killed Doctor Who" wankers any more ammo by having the show be cancelled with the first woman as the lead)

Ooh, is there specific podcasts that you would recommend? I've gotten into the habit of listening to podcasts while I commute, and could use some new stuff to listen.
