My hopes were for him to die in the battle of Winterfell.
That's another thing they set up and never paid off. Bran tells Jaime there might not be an "after" for both of them after the battle, he goes on this mystical warg... and then they both survive and he makes absolutely no difference to the battle whatsoever.
But maybe Bran isn't as all-knowing as he likes to tell people.
