Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] deird1!

Here's my very first attempt at Farscape fic, which may only make sense to people familiar with Australian 80s movies.

Cultural Reference Gap

Aeryn poked the unconscious Crichton. "What happened?"

Rygel groaned in royal dismay. "The Luxan hit him because the human insulted his sword. It's some kind of ridiculous warrior honour thing."

"It is not," D'Argo protested, slightly embarrassed. "I assumed he was trying to insult me and thought it would be considerate to let him think he'd succeeded. Humans just... pass out easily."

"He said your sword wasn't a knife, then said his tiny little pocket knife was a knife, and you weren't insulted?"

"Well, my Qualta Blade isn't a knife," D'Argo shrugged. "It was a very odd thing to say."

I haven't read a Crocodile Dundee crossover before. And now I can't help wondering why ever not!

Call that a drabble?

Well yes - and a rather fun one, too.

Hee!

You're familiar with Australian 80s movies? Your knowledge is vast, Viking.

Heh. I suddenly think that it would be terrible to be stuck on a Leviathan where nobody would get my references! Maybe that's why I hang out on LJ? However, I learned long ago to never compare men's knives, even in jest.

I was entirely on the wrong track with my Mad Max guess. *sob*

Before I read it, I too assumed it was gonna be Mad Max.

Something tells me there's probably a good reason... :-) Thanks!

Thanks!

Sorry. Regularly scheduled fannishness over American stuff will resume shortly. ;-)

I'm pretty sure that's half the reason Crichton wants home. :-) Thanks!

And here I thought I'd misled people into thinking it was going to be Young Einstein...

I'll save that one for the next in the epic "Crichton quotes classic Aussie movies" drabble series. :-)
