With LJ dead resting, let's find something to do.
Ask me my fannish Top Five [whatevers]. Any top fives. And I will answer, either in a new post or in the comments to this post as fancy dictates.

Date: 2011-07-29 11:59 am (UTC)1. AtS 1.13 "She."
Why: It's an entire episode focusing on an OC who wouldn't be all that interesting even if she were played by a good actress. She's played by... Bai Ling. Add slow pacing and an overdone metaphor and just generally yawn.
Not completely awful points: Cordy's party. "I don't dance." The Baudelaire bit.
2. Buffy 4.11 "Doomed."
Why: Probably in part because it follows a string of really good episodes, culminating in "Hush", and then stumbles and falls flat on its face when it tries to tie up some loose ends and get Buffy and Riley together by any means necessary. Giles is very poorly dubbed, Buffy is revealed to have Super Falling Powers, and I'm bored. It's not as objectively bad as some s1 episodes, but damnit, they should know better at this point.
Not completely awful points: "It's the end of the world." "AGAIN?!?" Spike in a Hawaii shirt, and his rant over the closing credits.
3. Buffy 1.04 "Teacher's Pet"
Why: Preachy, awful special effects, bad bad acting, plot lines disappearing halfway through, a really cheesy horror movie ending... fortunately, most of it is literally obscured by the fact that they apparently had a grand total of 3 25-watt light bulbs available for the night and basement scenes. I literally cannot see what the hell is going on half the time.
Not completely awful points: A teacher sticking up for Buffy for once. Oh, and Giles' tape recorder. Good gag. Wasted.
4. Angel 3.20 "A New World"
Why: For starters, it's a 15-minute episode padded to 42 minutes by having almost the entire damn episode play out in slow motion. It gets ridiculous after a while, and the utter lack of plot for most of the episode (along with Connor adapting a little too quickly to a world nothing like anything he's ever known) doesn't help. I've grown to appreciate Connor's arc more on rewatches, but the end of s3 could easily have been condensed into one or two episodes without losing anything.
Not completely awful points: Hmmm... Lorne's mystic friend with the blue hair is fun. I'd have liked to see more of her. So add "disappointment" to the above complaints.
5. Buffy 2.05 "Reptile Boy".
Why: Not a very controversial episode to put on this list, I guess. Even if I choose to take the over-the-top moral as a deliberate spoof of that sort of moral - which is a stretch - I also despise this episode because it has a commentary track. That's not a very rational reason, perhaps, but given how many great, funny, profound etc Buffy episodes don't have a commentary, I hate "Reptile Boy" because it has a commentary track where the writers treat it as if it were a deep, thoughtworthy episode.
Not Completely Awful Points: Willow ranting at Giles and Angel. Giles' dry "The words 'let that be a lesson' are a tad redundant at this juncture."
(Also, there's no such thing as a bad over-the-top gorefest. ;) )
