For [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday's Song Title challenge:

Avant Gardener
Title from "Avant Gardener" by Courtney Barnett

"Sunnydale Plants & Garden, Tim speaking, how may I help you?"

(...)

"Weeding? Sure, we've got tools for that."

(...)

"Our most popular pruning shears are 8 inches."

(...)

"Not really. We have hedge clippers, but – "

(...)

"Poison? You mean herbicides? Sure…"

(...)

"…That quickly? No."

(...)

"What?"

(...)

"No, we do not carry flamethrowers. What on – "

(...)

"Um… sure. Thanks for calling."

(.)

Buffy hung up and turned to Giles. "Right, no help there. You're sure stakes won't work? Because - "

"Plants don't have hearts, Buffy."

They looked out at the triffids surrounding the Magic Box. "That's the last time I let Willow help Dawn with a science project."

LOL!

Thanks!

And that's pretty neat. I think I'm going to stay very far away from that particular alley though - just to be on the safe side.

That's life on the hellmouth. Thanks!

Snerk.

Excellent. I love the triffid story.

Pretty funny. Just another day at Sunnydale, when even gardening is fraught with danger.

I love this. Buffy facing triffids is a fabulous idea.

I have one word for you, Buffy: Machete.

This is excellent! Plants are dangerous, as Courtney tells us...

Thanks!

Honestly, I'm sort of surprised that Sunnydale's gardeners don't carry flamethrowers as part of their regular equipment.

Thanks!

Thanks! I just hope she finds a better way of killing them than they did in the movie...

I'd go with an electric hedgetrimmer (http://ace.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pACE3-12342352enh-z8.jpg) myself.

Thanks!

The book is better. If I had seen the film first I would never have opened it. Like many of Wyndham's novels, though, the ending is unsatisfactory - it just kinda stops.

Thanks! Going by Sunnydale (junior) high school tradition, I'm afraid her teacher may have been the first victim.

Thank you!

I read the book ages ago, and frankly only remember being slightly less angry with the ending. The movie (IIRC) is so good up until the ending, and then - salt water and churches. Seriously?

Wyndham just seems to get bored. He quite literally leaves his characters hanging in mid-air in The Chrysalids.

LOL Another amazing story! How do you do? So jealous of your talent. :)
