Incidentally, and not in any way Whedon-related ;-) I was just watching the extras on the season 1 DVD of Happy Tree Friends - if you're not familiar with it, it's an animated web series that features ridiculously cute cartoon animals dying horribly. (Don't judge me.) There's a featurette which has all the early sketches of the characters, including a bunch that never made it onto the show, along with the creators talking about them (possibly while stoned). So there's tons of sketches of adorable bunnies, racoons, squirrels, bears, etc... then at one point, a centaur. A depressed centaur. And they just laugh until they cry at how ridiculous a concept it was and how happy they are that they never went with that character ("Were you guys... um... taking something?").
Centaurs: officially too cracky for Happy Tree Friends.
