OK, so sometimes, I really do love US television.

With both Dexter 2.01-2.02 and Weeds 3.01 getting leaked, I've been in heaven. Two fantastic new seasons of two fantastic series. Dean/Doug may be my new OTP, now that Nancy/Celia seems off the table. I don't suppose someone could rec me any Dexter or Weeds fic? Pretty please?

Also, The Sarah Connor Chronicles 1.01 has been leaked. Haven't watched it yet; Summer Glau or no, it's still Fox and I fully expect it to be cancelled in about... uh... 4, 3, 2, 1...

ETA: SCC was pretty good. Which of course means that it will be cancelled. But hey, Summer Glau fighting while nekkid, can't go wrong with that really.

Also also: prettiness.

What's even more amazing is that it's based on a book which is... mediocre at best. They've taken a very so-so book and turned it into one of the most profound and creepy series in years. Anyone can make something bad out of something great, but doing it the other way around really takes skill...

Really? Gah! It gets better? Does it get darker? Sicker? Oh I love dark shows, Nip/Tuck was great until the last episode of season 3 then I vowed never to watch it again.

I am really excited about Dexter now!

I would have to say that the last two eps of s1 of Dexter is among the best season finales I've ever seen* - and s2, so far, BUILDS on that. So yes, it gets better, darker, creepier and also somehow more... um... relatable-to. Dexter is a man on a slippery slope, and I still don't know where he'll land.

* Putting it in the running with Buffy s2, 5 and 6, Angel s5, The Shield s5, The Sopranos s4, Weeds s2, Twin Peaks s2... you know, the kind where every single thread that's been running throughout the series comes crashing down at the same time, and when the dust settles we're still left with more questions than answers...

I had exactly the same reaction. Read the first book after season 1 was finished and was AMAZED at the difference -- every once in a while, there would be something good, but for the most part I was left completely cold and thinking, *You know, over HALF of the fanfic I've read is better than this*...

Exactly. The guy has a good idea, but he completely fails to see the potential in his own story - much of the subtext, the philosophizin', the human aspect of Dexter was added by the TV people. The book is just a murder mystery with a kink, and a poorly written one at that. (Though the one good thing about it was that it made Debra a more likable character; if anything, she's less whiny and inept in the series than she is in the book, and that's saying something. Looks like she's getting a fantastic arc in s2, though...)

I'm doing everything I can do avoid leaks for the two shows I watch, but I'm pretty much orgasmically happy that Nathan Fillion's gonna be on Desperate Housewives.

Also, much congratulations, your story rocked.

Thanks!

Nathan Fillion's gonna be on Desperate Housewives.

Really? Crap, I may have to watch it. ;-) Recurring role or just a guest spot?

Recurring. He's playing the stepdad in the new family on Wisteria Lane... who's apaprently a gynecologist..

I feel bad now. I have no idea what Dexter or Weeds are about. Partially because my cable is screwed up and all I get now is Discovery Channel and TBS. And the other part because I don't really care for t.v. anymore. So much is crap and/or reality shows; I can't stand it.

On a whole, I agree with you, but it seems to me that TV right now is 90% utter crap and 10%... if not pure gold, then at least very high quality; some people have taken the clues from series like Buffy, Sopranos and others and really started to explore the possibilities of the medium. I just hope they are allowed to keep doing it.

Case in point:
Dexter is about Dexter Morgan, a - to quote a phrase - serial serial killer killer. He's an utter psychopath who has been conditioned by his stepfather to only kill those who deserve it - mainly serial killers. And he's good at it. What he's NOT good at is living like a normal person while he hides what he is from the rest of the world; he can act human, but he's about as coldly emotionless as Mr Spock. Cue much delving into the darker sides of the human psyche, free will, right and wrong etc. Oh, and it stars Julie Benz of Angel fame.

Weeds is a lot more funny, but possibly even better IMO; a dark comedy about a housewife in a rich California suburb who, when she suddenly finds herself widowed, starts selling pot to her neighbours to make ends meet. Only as it turns out, that's not really a solution but just gets her into even more trouble... brilliant satire on middle class suburbia and excellent character drama too. Plus, like I said, funny as hell.
