2. A song you like with a number in the title
The Don Ellis Orchestra - 33 222 1 222
We have a song here in what we call the "traditional 19", 19 beats to the bar... Let me give you the subdivision here, it's 3-3-2-2-2-1-2-2-2. Of course, that's just the area code.
Don Ellis was a complete madman, writing big band jazz tunes 20 years too late, in time signatures that should be nigh-unplayable and certainly undanceable, like this one in 19/8. (To non-musicians: like 80% of popular music is in 4/4, ONE-two-three-four, ONE-two-three-four, a few are in 3/4, ONE-two-three, ONE-two-three - 19/8, ie you count to NINETEEN in each bar, is ridiculous.) And yet it's so incredibly groovy and catchy that you might not notice until you try to clap along. Irony of ironies: Ellis died of heart arrhythmia at 44.
