Mini fics
I hope everyone's taken a look at the Fandom Love (mini)Fic-A-Thon? Lots of prompts in all sorts of fandoms, to be filled by a one-sentence (or at least very short) fic. Here are the ones I've come up with so far:
Prompt:
janie_tangerine, The Dark Tower, I'll love you with all the madness in my soul.
Wings For Wheels
Eddie had been pushing the wheelchair across the prairie for hours, singing to Susannah and himself as he walked. So when he suddenly stopped right at "We gotta get out while we're young, cause tramps like us...", Susannah gave him a few seconds to continue, and then asked why he stopped singing.
"Um... no reason."
"That's one of them Springfield songs, isn't it?"
"Springsteen."
She grinned. "So you didn't forget the lyrics. So what's the next line? Something about 'black' again?"
"...'Born To Run'," he conceded, wrenching her wheelchair around a suspicious hole in the ground. He really didn't want to think about what might be living in it.
Susannah reached up and touched his cheek. "I don't think it matters what we were born to at this point. Just sing."
Prompt:
catbirdfish, Dollhouse - genesis
Last Thursdayism
University and medical school was all science, facts, evidence; now her job consists of taking a void body, turning on the light and creating a ready-made person who's always been there, brand new and ancient at the same time. And the word was... for a little while. Ivy appreciates irony, and it used to make her laugh. But as more and more dolls come back with reports of composite events, she wonders if the most difficult part of the job isn't keeping the dinosaur fossils hidden.
Prompt:
duh_i_read, Twin Peaks- fear is here to stay, love is here for a visit
Under 50 tons of rubble in the collapsed bank, Audrey wills herself alive; thinks of John returning from saving the world, her father returning to his senses, Agent Cooper sorting everything out, hears the sirens and voices outside, the digging and calling out for survivors.
Later, in the hospital, freed from chains and stone, the bones set and the bleeding stopped, she lies in her clinically white bed, waiting. Outside, the ancient pine trees loom and keep on looming against the grey sky like a fence.
Prompt:
brutti_ma_buoni, Jossverse - I'm five years ago and three thousand miles away
At some point during a long evening of mutual staring, Wesley catches sight of Illyria through the bottle as he tips it back; for a fraction of a second, the distorted fairground mirror effect makes her look inhuman, and for the first time in years he thinks about being captured by Balthazar. How very frightened he was of a paltry demon. And he laughs and laughs and laughs until he chokes.
Prompt:
catbirdfish, Jossverse - after everything that’s happened, how can the world still be so beautiful? because it is.
Three weeks later, they're in orbit around Beaumonde, waiting for landing coordinates. There's a sunrise every 63 minutes. Alone in her quarter, Zoe watches every one.
Prompt:
laeria, BtVS - cone sold stober
That Metaphor Thingy
"That was the best spell ever. I'm all buzzed. Oooh, let's do another one!" She collapsed in giggles. "'Another'. That's a funny word, isn't it?"
"Um, Willow... you do realise what the herb we used in that spell was, right? I don't think we should do any more spells while we're... inebriated?"
This, apparently, was another hilarious word. "Have you been drinking? Naughty Boozehound Tara."
"No, but -"
"Lucky for you I'm s- Oooh, cookies!"
