Didn't have time to write up a big music post this week, so I hit up This Day In Music and learned that today, it's exactly 38 years since the recording of one of the most charmingly amateurish debut videos ever made:

That's right, kids, once upon a time you could launch a band to (eventual) superstardom with just a flatbed truck, a handheld camera, a couple of bored bagpipers, and presumably lots of booze. I guess stuff like this happens every day in Melbourne.

I assume that people who don't love AC/DC have a reason for this. I'm sure they're very good reasons. Luckily, all the reason I need to dismiss those reasons are in the first few seconds of this song. And in pretty much every other song they recorded between 1975 and 1982 or so. Let there be light! ...Sound! Drums! GUITAR!

People say we've made 11 albums that sound exactly alike. Like hell! We've made TWELVE albums that sound exactly alike! - Angus Young

Proposition, last AC/DC song truly worthy of being called classic: "Ballbreaker".

I don't know that I'd call any song past "Thunderstruck" a classic, but there's a couple of good ones after that too. For some reason I always liked "Safe In New York City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuPxI1lENt8)".

I can't believe how young they are in that first video! Good gravy!

If you think they look young there, check out this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ-45XG7n4k) of Bon Scott as a back-up singer back in the 60s...

Now that's hysterical.

It also brings back fond memories. Buttercup was huge when I was a teenager and my friends and I completely rewrote the lyrics:

why do you build me up (build me up), padded cup, baby
just to let me down and bounce me around?
and worst of all (worst of all)
you never lift baby when you say you will
but I need you still.

I need you (I need you) more than any bra, baby
you know that I have from the start
so build me up, padded cup, please cross my heart

I remember being in junior high and my parents not wanting me to listen to my uncle's AC/DC albums (I'm not entirely sure what they expected I would DO if I heard them since I never did a thing...)

Why, get into ballroom dancing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFjp5DBQnlw), of course. :)

Yay! AC/DC.

I saw them live so many years ago I don't even want to think how long ago it was.

I guess stuff like this happens every day in Melbourne.

It totally does. (nods earnestly, hides the traps for unsuspecting foreigners)
