For [livejournal.com profile] angearia, who wanted "Buffy wondering what the hell is up with that icon you're using". Watch out for the sneaky slash.

Probably The Most Unexpected Double Entendre In The World
Early season 5-ish.

The movie quote game around the Scoobies' table at the Bronze seized abruptly when Spike sat down unbidden with a large glass of Carlsberg. He downed the beer in one long gulp and sighed: "Worth waiting for." His expectant grin faded when he saw everyone's clueless faces. "Come on! 1958? Desert march? Sir John Mills, Sylvia Sims...?"

"...Who?"

"Bloody yanks. Ice Cold In Alex! The greatest war movie ever made!"

Buffy frowned. "What kind of a title is that?"

"Well," Spike sneered, "ask Xander, he doesn't mind a cold one in -"

Xander blushed bright red and quickly changed the subject.

Ba-dum-bum! Very nice!

Will have to sic MiAmor on "Ice Cold". In his family, war movies are known as "Their Courage Was Three", for odd, childhood reasons. Looks right up his alley.

Thanks!

I don't know if I'd rank Ice Cold as the best war movie ever (I'm honestly not sure if Spike would ever, though there's parts of it he could definitely relate to by s5) but it's definitely very good.

Very nice. I visualise Spike enjoying a lot of those war and POW films of the period, and this works admirably. Of course the others would be clueless.

Thanks! To be fair on the gang, they are pretty knowledgeable about movies (I always figured Hank Summers had a big VHS collection) but I suppose British 50s war films might be a little out of their league... :-)

Absolutely wonderful! Loved the sneaky slash.

And yes, best war movie ever. Except for 633 Squadron, because there's a Sikh in it.

Personally I think Apocalypse Now is the best war movie, but damn, ICIA is good.

I'm clearly slow today because it wasn't until second reading that I recognised where you got the title from...

I somehow love you even more than I already did. Hee! Dirty, dirty mind. Why did you resist this meme again?

Oh and I'll just flat out admit this embarassing little detail. From the small icon size of the image, I thought the woman looked like Allison Mack and the man looked like Hugh Laurie. I thought you'd like photoshopped them in the first time I saw it. *headdesks* So whenever I see your icon I still think of Chloe staring at House's beer. :)

From: [identity profile] beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com
Haha, thanks!

You think that's embarrassing? I still can't see Hugh Laurie without seeing him as Prince George in Blackadder. Every time I watch House, I keep hearing him doing House's lines in that accent.

It was brilliant, and after providing some of the funniest TV ever, it ended with a very powerful anti-war image.

It's a pity that those Americans who only know HL from House and movies don't appreciate the true extent of his comedic genius, as demonstrated best in Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie.

I actually wrote meta on the similarities between Blackadder s4 and Angel s5 once (http://beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com/16524.html). :-)
