January drabbles: Ethan

17th: The wonderful villain that is Ethan Rayne. This gave me all sorts of ideas, none of which is really possible to do in 100 words, so this is deliberately vague. But it has a nice mood, I think.

It's raining the day the army lets Ethan out, "under supervision". He snorts when he sees who that is, but gets in the car.

Windshield wipers fight a losing battle.

"So, Ripper... what's the plan? Don't suppose you could just drop me off at the airport?"

"You know I can't do that." No rage there anymore, just cold. "We're going to Cleveland. Council Headquarters."

"Have better dungeons there, do you?"

Giles ignores the question, and all others for the remainder of the drive. The rain pounds down. Ethan raises an eyebrow as Giles pushes the car over the speed limit.

Heh. Actually, the whole rain bit probably came from Terminator or something. "There's a storm coming..." (Or that bit in the otherwise horrible Jurassic Park where Jeff Goldblum explains chaos theory.) One of my ideas was to have Ethan as Dana's watcher, since they're both a) chaotic and b) expendable. But that's for a longer fic which would include some DarkGiles and possibly Faith as a heroine and I so don't need more ideas right now.

Once I'm done with all 31 days of January, I'm going to go through these and see which ones beg to be spun off into something longer. This one is definitely a prime contender.

Well... I have a bunch of bunnies I need to... uh, find homes for... fuck metaphor, a bunch of story ideas I need to develop. This is definitely one of them. But it's tricky, plus I need to finish another Faith WIP I've had a-brewin' for over a year... Don't suppose you could come over and kick my ass every time I procrastinate? ;-)
