1. Just got caught up with s3 of New Doctor Who and while I wouldn't say I'm completely sold on it yet, it does have a lot of great things about it (RTD's scripts not always being one of them, but...) So if anyone has any fic or similar stuff that I just *have* to read, I'd appreciate a rec! (Also, I need a dalek icon. Daleks > Everything Else In The Universe Ever.)

ETA: Thanks
stormwreath for the icon!
2. A couple of Buffyverse recs, since I don't rec nearly enough stuff:
3. Finally, a couple of icons I've made on a whim and never posted here.

2. A couple of Buffyverse recs, since I don't rec nearly enough stuff:
- Of All the Wonders That I Yet Have Heard by
girlpire (Angel/Darla, R). Fantastic take on what might have happened post-"Lullaby."
frogfarm finished Big Country (Faith/Willow, R). Post-"Chosen" (slightly AU, see pairing), but the past just never lets Faith go...
- I'll Have What She's Having by
spuffyduds is a Twin Peaks crossover! (Faith/Audrey, PG13). (And I do have my own take on the pairing, which will be appearing shortly.
- Come Into My Parlor by
bookishwench (Tara/?, PG13). Excellent pre-canon look at Tara (as is
frogfarm's One Summer, My Far Horizon, though that one heads off-canon into very believable Faith/Tara).
- And finally, Buffybot's Big Adventure! by Alex Wert sees the return to the Buffyverse of one of my favourite humour ficcers. This is a WIP taking place post-"Bargaining", but so far he always finishes his stories and they usually end up hilarious. (Buffybot/Various, R)
- Also, I put some recs up at
buffyversetop5: Faith/Buffy, list-type fics, drabbles, episode rewrites, season 8.
3. Finally, a couple of icons I've made on a whim and never posted here.

Date: 2008-01-24 12:30 pm (UTC)Love it! :-D It is a pretty show, isn't it? Right now I'm trying my damnedest to NOT make a Master vid... I think I'm going to fail at that.
My main problem with RTD's scripts is that... well, he can't write scripts. He's good at the whole metaphor/character/UST thing, but he can't plot a story. Every single episode of his seems the same:
1. Problem
2. Doctor says something funny
3. More problems
4. Doctor and Martha run around like headless chickens for 10-20 minutes, jumping/crawling through hoops/tunnels and dodging bullets/lasers/daleks
5. Doctor (or possibly Martha) says something smart (if it's the Doctor, he may get to be a little psycho while saying it)
6. Problem solved until RTD ties back to it in the last episode.
As much as I'd like to think that the Doctor's tennis shoes are a fashion statement, it seems more like a practical consideration; all that running would be impossible in better shoes...

Oooooh yes. Even the bad episodes are usually gorgeous visually (and the people are pretty too of course...).

Do not fight it! I'd *love* to see what you'd make. (I have lots of vid recs btw...)

See this is where I'm probably way to easy to please, 'cause I can cope with a rubbish plot if all the rest works. (Can't do the opposite which one reason why s8 ain't working for me.) Also - thankfully - he's not the only writer! Stephen Moffat is my new idol btw. Have you seen 'Time Crash'? (The 'Children in Need' special.)

Date: 2008-01-24 01:35 pm (UTC)Moffat seems pretty damn sharp, yes. "The Girl In The Fireplace" and "Blink" were both great.

"No, no beard this time. Well, a wife."
Literally LOL!

Date: 2008-01-25 07:38 am (UTC)As I said, Moffat is something resembling a genius. The thing is only a little over 5 minutes, but every line just *shines*! (I wrote a squee/meta thing after it aired. *g*
(Also, Doctor/Master 4eva!)
