Title: Ironic Punishments Division

When Angel's heart starts beating, he supposes he deserved this.

He's done a lot of good in the years since he became a champion of mankind.

Saved souls. Vanquished monsters. Stopped an apocalypse or twelve.

So what if it took 300 years.

So what if he had to watch everyone he loved die.

So what if he failed in the end.

So what if he's the only one left.

Everyone Angelus killed is still dead. He deserved this.

Angel sits on the rubble that was LA, breathing deep, watching the sun set, trying to appreciate the PTB's sense of humor.

Slowly, the world stopped spinning. He was soaked through and through, and his limbs felt heavier than ever before. He could hear the last of the blood-tainted water run out through the drain below him and tried in vain to move.

Then the hatch opened and Fred hauled him out, holding him up triumphantly. "See? Told ya Tide gets demon blood out."

Gunn shrugged. "Fine. I still say we shouldn't have let him fight like that..."

"Oh, don't worry, Angel's tough. Ain'tcha, big guy?" Fred cuddled him before opening the next hatch.

PuppetAngel protested weakly. "No... not the dryer... please..."

Thanks! The first one is an idea I should probably expand on, it doesn't really work as well as a drabble - what if the whole shanshu thing was just even more punishment? What if it just meant he got to live long enough to fail - and THEN got to be human and suffer? It's not a very happy concept, but with Angel being a gluttony for punishment, I think part of him would like that...

Ooh, awesome!! Loved them in absolutely opposite ways, and I loved the balance. So reminiscent of the show itself, in that respect especially. You are going to have to keep this drabble thing going long after you've satisfied the requirement, just to give me my fix. ;) Thanks!
