"Leave them on."

It shouldn't sting like it does. This was supposed to be a game, she's a queen and he's just a pawn (possibly a knight, two steps forward and one across). Something to corrupt - a little white in her black, if you'll pardon the metaphor.

You called this a relationship. But no matter how deep inside her he is, he still wants what she's not. So she takes him, glasses and schoolgirl uniform on. Bites her tongue. Doesn't look into his eyes when she comes, leaves in silence after he does. Plays to win, since she's already lost.

EDIT: Also, rec'd some Kennedy stuff over at [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5. Which is a great community that you really should check out if you haven't already, there's about a week of recommendations to go, I think. (Oh, and in the shameless self-promotion department, in case anyone follows that link back to me, here's my own Kennedy pieces: Shooting Star, Pining, First Light)

I don't often feel sorry for Lilah, but that story does the job. Well done, tugging at my emotions like that. :-)

Thanks! This scene is one of the most painful scenes in the entire Buffyverse, IMO... Lilah basically dares Wesley to tell her he wants her, not Fred, but Wesley being Wesley is hurt and responds in kind. Two people dragging each other down. Ouch.

As much as Wesley changed during his history, one thing that never changed was how poorly he fared with interpersonal relationships. Of course, in the Jossverse *nobody* did well in that area for long.
