29th... Rupert Giles, Esq.

Title: A Slayer Slays, A Watcher Watches
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Character: Giles
Timeline: "The Gift"
Word count: 100

It doesn't seem real until he lifts her. The pain as he pops the stitches in his side wakes him up. He was run through by a bloody spear, how can he be the one still breathing?

Her face is peaceful, dead before impact, but broken bones shift and her head lolls at a... wrong angle. He cradles her carefully; she hardly weighs anything. Was she always this fragile? Some still-functioning part of his brain starts counting things he could have done differently.

Her watcher carries her home, refusing offers of help. Their blood drips and mixes on the pavement.

*Sniff* If that was too sad, here are two funnier Giles drabbles: Dedication, Let It Bleed.

Hey, I feel like I've slacked on my comments lately, but couldn't let this one get by me. WOW. That's such a gorgeous, wrenching, believable glimpse into Giles at that moment. Depressing, yes, but also very, very lovely. In that dark way that I have a major affinity for. :-)

Thanks a lot! The immediate aftermath of "The Gift" is something I will never be able to write perfectly, but always will keep trying to...

*reads the drabble*
*looks at your icon*

Somehow, I can't help but giggle. Darn you! It was such a nicely-written, angsty drabble. Now all I picture is the Simpsons. :)

Really nice title, by the way.

I was wondering if I was the only one doing that. LOL

Great drabble. Strange icon.

I think it adds character. :) Certainly saves you from the weeping.

Thanks! Well, I had to put SOME giggly in there. I've got a whole series of Homer Simpson vs the Buffyverse planned, and this seemed like a good time to use one of them...

Oh, what the hell, here's one more because you're such a fantastic person:

Thanks. I figure in an episode about kinship and sharing blood etc, it would make sense for her father figure to join in on the bloodplay fun... and your icon is really inappropriately hilarious. Love it.

thanks. it matches the one you used for the post! being inappropriate is fun.

Wonderfully done. I would quote my favourite lines, but that would mean copying most of the drabble into this comment. Angsty, beautiful, with just the right amount of restraint.

Thanks! I've always pictured Giles managing to hold it together until he gets her home; "restraint" indeed.

Just one word Excellent. But since that is four :-) you get the idea.

Her watcher carries her home

Loved this.

Thanks. This really should be longer; I keep meaning to explore that watcher/man duo in Giles... the watcher gets to do the duty things, and then the man gets to grieve.

Re watcher/man duo in Giles...

Think that would be worthwhile. Think you have a good take on Giles. Or maybe a series of watcher drabbles on how they deal with their slayers? To compare and contrast.

Oh and a bit of pimiping here have posted two new fics and three new chps of running on since your last visit:-)

I know, I know, I'm sorry... *bows in apology* January has been a messy month, haven't had time to do much reading. Will catch up ASAP.

And I hope to have a Giles-post-"The Gift" fic up during February. Should be fun. In a sad way, I mean.
