Wins, drabble and the canon thing

OK, it's been a nice few days for me, award-wise... this is me blushing and bowing in humility and gratitude to everyone. No less than three of my fics now wear pretty garlands, as shown under the cut.

Also, here's a drabble for
open_on_sunday's "Angels and Demons" challengs:
Angel On Top AKA Eat Your Heart Out, Richard Gere
Remember Anya's speech on Santa in "The Body"...?
"Is it dead?"
"Yup."
"OK. That's good. That's..." Fred whimpered. "We slayed Santa, guys."
"Technically, not really." Wesley awkwardly patted her on the shoulder. "This demon, Santa Claws, has gone down chimneys to eviscerate children since the 15th century, but the Father Christmas myth shall live on without him..."
Gunn turned to Angel, who was struggling to get up. "You OK?"
"NO." Angel gasped in pain. "Did you have to call me by my name in front of that thing?"
"Sorry, but... how was I supposed to know his reaction would be to shove a Christmas tree up your ass?"
Ouch. Sorry, Angel. And finally, here's a nice little comic about the canon debate and the upcoming Potterdämmerung - as always, I choose to stand aside and shake my head at the whole mess: Just because the author writes it, doesn't mean it's canon

Date: 2007-07-16 10:07 pm (UTC)Poor Angel and what a delightful title for that drabble. Hee!
Also, "The Singular of Apocalypses" shook me up so much I never even managed to leave feedback. Just the thought of it makes me start to tear up again. GOOD work ... and you're EVIL.

On the fanfic canon front, I've never met any fans who were that fanatic ... yet. This has made me wonder about something, though. In my mind, it has to be created by the original to be canon -- Joss's to be canon Buffy, for instance, or Rowling to be canon Harry. But I wonder if we could come up with a name for a fanwriter who creates his own universe for all his stories, as I did. If another writer came in to write within that universe, what would you call the original? Fanon?
Yeah, I'm tired, why do you ask? :-)
Re: Well done!
Date: 2007-07-24 10:16 am (UTC)What's canon and not is really tricky sometimes, I guess... what about the Buffy movie? That was (originally) written by Joss, yet it's not considered canon. I'm willing to settle for just good storytelling myself, and the whole canon debate be damned.
glad to be back!
