Thing ye firste: Yay!

Thank you so much! Make sure to check out the other winners here.

Thing ye seconde: A drabble for [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday and the prompt "Defend".

Wings In Water
Post-s6

Throughout a cold English summer, Giles waits for the coven to hold some sort of trial. They’re an ancient order, they must have rules. He’d speak in her defense, explain why Willow should be allowed to live, why she’s worth saving. He’d tell them of the girl waiting at the library doors on his first day at the hellmouth, six years ago. How he failed her. How he couldn’t keep her from becoming ever more powerful, more arrogant. How he couldn’t control her.

He keeps waiting, but the witches never ask his opinion. They just take care of their own.

Wooooo! Cloudbusting got nominated for the Sunnydale Memorial Awards! Thank you so much!

Also, here's a little what-if from BtVS7/AtS4, for [profile] open_on_sunday's prompt "Last".

Enemy Of Every Enemy

In the end, it's a simple choice. Quick trip to LA, a few stakings, and crank up the TV stations. (Not like she's never killed him before.)

The First Evil would have ended the world; the Last Evil made that impossible. Buffy's not sure why only she can see Jasmine's true face, but her friends are happy. Well, they smile a lot. That counts, right? The world is still here, she can touch it. Almost feel it.

But if one more empty-eyed zombie tells her how fantastic Jasmine is, she may just have to touch them hard upside the head.

I got nominated at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards!

Pro Bono (Lilah & Faith, gen) got nominated in the That Old Gang Of Mine (best gen) category, and Cloudbusting (Willow/Illyria) was nominated in Guise Will Be Guise (best slash). Thanks a lot!

Also, voting is open at [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award, with some really good nominees. So, go do that thing.
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
Point the first: [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award is open for nominations. Go here to nominate your favourite femslash! Two of mine have been nominated:
Cloudbusting (Willow/Illyria) for Best Future (which admittedly sounds a bit odd since it's a Very Bad Future they find themselves in, but hey)
Strawberries (Willow/Fred) for Best Lighthearted

So thanks a lot for that!

Point the second: [livejournal.com profile] letsgetitdone seems to be up and running, though it's still not too late to sign up. Should be fun. I have a few ideas I'm going to throw at the wall and see what sticks. Deadline in December. If nothing else, I may have a vid idea or two (it's been way too long since I vidded).

Point the third: [personal profile] snickfic should be posting a crackficathon any minute now. In the meantime, I'm watching what's allegedly an olympic basketball match between the US and Nigeria, but must surely be some sort of odd Britcom making fun of perceived American superiority. 130-64 right now... yeah, right.

Point the fourth: I've managed to stay away from Avengers fandom so far, but this makes me want to write incredibly snarky Jane/Natasha. It's probably a good thing you don't have enough of a handle on the characters for that, self.

Point the fifth: Ah, here we go: CRACKFICATHON! Go forth and crackficate!
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
Wooo! "That There Is Not Me" got nominated at the [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards! Thanks a lot!

To celebrate, here's a rather... uncelebratory drabble for [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday's prompt "Burn(s)". (Because I already did the obvious one.)

Postscript

He used to know that there are countless heaven dimensions, each one different. He doesn’t anymore. If asked, he could only describe it in impressions.

To Wesley, it’s warm and comfortable and slightly foggy, like a bay window and a roaring fire on a rainy day. It tastes faintly of tea and Ardbeg Single Malt.

There's love, forgiveness, peace. No need to understand, question, decide. No scars (and no stubble).

There are no lawyers, physicists, prophecies, monsters. Nor any memories of them.

That’s as should be. It wouldn’t be Heaven if you had to remember the ones who burn.

First of all, YAY!

Big thanks, and congratulations to all the other winners!

Second, here's the 2011 roundup:

Fic and meta I wrote )

And a meme )

Stuff

beer_good_foamy: (Yes! Yes! Rawwwwwk!)
1. Ms Summers Goes To Washington has been nominated for Best Comedy, Best Crossover TV and Best Gen Fic at the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards! Yay! Tons of other good fics are nominated too, go vote!

2. I've signed up, have you?

Now I just need to decide which plotbunny to go with, the angsty h/c one or the kinky meta-voyeur one... Hmmm.

3. Instant genderswapper app. Go nuts.
THE PRINCESS DIARIES: He's just a New York City boy living with his artist dad... News Flash: Mom is prince of Genovia. (So that's why a limo meets him at the airport!) Downer: Mom can't have any more kids. (So no heir to the throne.)

4. Ever wonder what US English sounds like to foreigners?

5. That is all for now.

Musings

First of all, I just discovered that I won some stuff at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards! Check out all the winners here - I'm proud to be in such illustrous company.

Banners! )

Also... I hesitate to call this meta since I'm not exactly sure if it's fully thought through, but what the hell. So I'm watching Buffy s6 and I'm reading N. Katherine Hayles' How We Became Posthuman (which is interesting, especially if you're into cyborgs and Neal Stephenson and perception of reality and the nature of humanity as encoded information and so forth, but very heavy on theory). Anyway, I stumble onto this section on entropy which got me thinking.

Things Fall Apart. The Centre Cannot Hold. Should It?

Season 6 is the season with no Big Bad, no huge arc, no outside disturbance, all conflicts turned inwards... And so on. Thoughts on 'Entropy', entropy, storytelling, and also there's a song at the end. )
beer_good_foamy: (DALEK)
First of all, yay awards - someone was kind enough to nominate "Half Full" at the Willowy Goodness Awards! Thanks, o noble sponsor!

The Willowy Goodness Awards

Here's the 30 Days of Buffy in 1 meme. Why yes, I would jump off a bridge if everyone else did.

Day 1. Favourite season... )

Awards!

beer_good_foamy: (Buffy)
I won an award at the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards! Look at the pretty. I should write more Kennedy fic. Thanks so much, and congrats to the other winners! (Seriously, check out some of the other winners, there's some amazing stuff there.)

Also, a couple of my fics got nominated at [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards. Thanks a lot for that too!

The Moment I Wake Up is up for Best Drabble
Gonna Make You Bark (there's a blast from the past) is up for Best original plot, Best AU, and Best romance/fluff (possibly the first Angel/Mr Gordo fic ever in that category).
Welcome To The Slaughterhouse is up for Best dark.

There's still time to nominate people for that one, btw. And no shortage of great writers - for starters, everyone should check out [livejournal.com profile] stormwreath's amazing The History of the Watchers' Council, which tracks the last 8,000 years of history and how the Council influenced it. A must-read.

Also, I know there's a lot of tension in the fandom right now, but keep this in mind: At least we're not that other Twilight fandom.

Stuff

I won stuff at the Gotta Have Faith Awards! Thanks a lot, this is one of my favourite fics I've written and I'm glad it's still being read. Also, a bunch of my favourite writers won stuff too, so congrats to them and go check out the other winners.

Also, people have been reccing some great stuff over at [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5, go check it out. Some people have even been kind enough to rec my stuff, for which I'm very grateful. I'm trying to put something together myself, but sadly I've sucked at reading fic (and remembering fic I've read) this last year, so... we'll see.

Tip for everyone: want to make fic reading easier? Have an e-reader? Squee!Book to the rescue! Will convert your own fic, or others', into handy e-reader formats with just a few mouseclicks. Very useful.

Also, The Cape... no. Just no. There is no god if this is the best Summer Glau could do after TSCC. I had some vague hope that this would prove to be Burton's Batman meets The Middleman, but it's just... dull, dull, clichéd and dull.

I have three fics I'm working on. Slowly but surely. We'll see what develops. Here's a sample:

"...Igor?" Buffy made the sort of face you make when someone proudly proclaims themselves the emperor of Tallahassee. "You seriously have an Igor?"
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
It's been a good couple of days award-wise. First of all, "Dawn Of The Dead" won stuff at [livejournal.com profile] c2c_buffyawards, as did many other excellent writers - congrats, folks!

Banners )

Second of all, "Five By Five By Five By..." is nominated at the Chosen Two Awards and "Morning Is Broken" at the Sunnydale Memorial Awards (which has a very nifty Felicia Day banner, btw, I really need to write some more Vi).

Huge thanks to everyone involved!

Also, a meme that's been doing the rounds and looks like fun since I haven't done a fic commentary for a while:

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if I have that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do working.

So, if you wanted, ask me questions! (Or use this to ask your flist to ask you questions).

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? Why did you decide to do this? And so on.

Fic masterlist here.
beer_good_foamy: (Default)
...and slowly trying to work my way back into some fandom stuff, though I came up against one hell of a writer's block and my entry for [personal profile] deird1's comics cover ficathon is embarrassingly late. It's coming, but since it's already so late I thought I'd give it another few days and post it once the inevitable comics shitstorm has abated a little.

Meanwhile, Pull Out The Pin won some awards at the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards! Thanks a lot, and congrats to all the other great writers who won stuff!

In the meantime, everyone should be watching Terriers. Shaun Ryan and Tim Minear doing The Big Lebowski... you know you want to see it. Starts out kinda slow, but really gets going about halfway into 1.03 (which has Olivia Williams).

Nobel Prize on Thursday. Oh yes.
beer_good_foamy: (Willow-death)
I'm nominated for some more awards - huge thanks to the almight nominators!

Pull Out The Pin is nominated for Best Fluff and Best Crossover at the SunnyD Awards.

Dawn Of The Dead is nominated for Best Comedy and Best Oneshot (a 48-chapter oneshot!) at [livejournal.com profile] c2c_buffyawards.

Also, a little drabble for [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday's prompt "Copy". Oh, the intricacies of dating people with supernatural abilities.

Super Calisthenics
Post-series

Thump. "Ow."

Kennedy winced as she kneeled by the undignified Willow-heap in front of the bedroom mirror and helped her on her feet. "You OK?"

"Hey, it takes more than a bump on the brainpan to -" Willow almost keeled over, but Kennedy held her up. "Woah. Head rush. No fair, those one-handed hand stands look so easy when you do 'em."

"On the other hand, I don't levitate every morning like some people."

"Promise you'll wear a helmet if you try? 'Cause... OW."

"And a parachute." Kennedy kissed the top of her head. "Let me get you an icepack."

First of all: Woah, it seems LJ is almost working this morning. Definite step up.

Second of all: Weee! Thanks so much!

As always, banner by the ridiculously fantastic [livejournal.com profile] xlivvielockex

Third of all, a little something I whipped up for the [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday challenge "Move".

No Souvenirs

It's about 48 hours after Sunnydale collapses, after the shock starts to dull, after they've refueled the bus and loaded up on necessities, before they remember things they left behind.

Books. Clothes. Rings. Stuffed pigs. Photo albums. Everything they'd have packed in boxes marked 'FRAGILE' and brought along if they'd known they weren't coming back. It's silly, really. It's just stuff, hooks to hang memories on. Not really important.

Dawn could tell them that, she's sorta used to travelling light. Instead, when nobody's looking, she quietly slips the last existing picture of Tara from her wallet into Willow's new purse.

Finally, here's a fun meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] shinodabear:
