Script!

It just occurred to me that I left something off my year in review post: Buffy Between the Lines, the fan audio drama! Over the year, I had one script (written in 2007) produced and broadcast for season 1 and wrote half of another episode for the ongoing season 2.

And since I haven't posted the script for the first ep I wrote here, I might as well. So this is episode 11 of Buffy Between The Lines, the penultimate episode of the season, in all its pre-produced glory. I'm pretty happy with most of it.

If you want to listen to the episode, it's here. And since it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, the season finale is here.

Title: Oldies Night
Author: Beer Good
Rating: PG13
Word Count: Over 9000
Summary: Buffy Between the Lines takes place between seasons 5 and 6, tracking what happened with the Scoobies during the Buffy-less summer - Willow's descent into black magic, everyone dealing with their grief, deciding to raise Buffy, etc. At the same time, they have to deal with a new Big Bad - Javert, a vampire Spike once sired during a very drunken night in Paris, who's decided to rid the world of California once and for all and employed a few Sunnydale lowlives to help him out.

In the last episode, Javert kidnapped Dawn, who's been less than happy with the situation and feeling generally abandoned by everyone and a bit rebellious. Javert's plan for destroying California is nearly ready for execution, and the Scoobies have their hands full...

The play's the thing )

One of the things that have been nagging me about the Kafka!Dawn storyline is that, well, I just don't see how it could ever happen. Not the being cursed bit, but how it could progress to the point where it's at in #1 and continues to be at, unchanged, in #20 when there seems to be a very obvious solution staring everyone in the face. I actually tried to write serious Season 8 fic about Buffy and Dawn, and as with all fic, my approach was pretty simple: start out with a basic premise and then ask myself "What would character X do?" In this case, the character was Buffy. And the Buffy in my head, the one I write in fic, the one I'd like to think is at least loosely based on how she was presented in canon, refused to play along with the plot.

Since the subject keeps coming up, just for kicks, I thought I'd write down the conversation I kept having with her whenever I tried to make her follow the Season 8 story. (Check the tag for previous character interviews.)

So here's this year's holiday fic – and as promised, it's a multi-parter! The basic setting of this is one of my more tenacious plot bunnies. I've done this as drama, I've done it as fluff with impending doom, and now I'm going to try and put a completely different spin on it and do it as action comedy. Let's see what happens, shall we?

Title: The Return of the Son of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Fandom/timeline: Buffy, s3: "Amends". Except Dawn is in it.
Word Count: ~1500 (this chapter)
Characters: Buffy, Faith, Joyce, Dawn. Canon pairings and crushes alluded to, but so far not explored.
Disclaimer:: The characters belong to Joss, yada yada.
Summary: It's Christmas in Sunnydale, Angel has been talked down from the hill and awww, isn't all that snow pretty. That can't be a bad thing, can it? I mean, this is Sunnydale, where the supernatural is always helpful and it's not like magical snow instantly covering the entire town could possibly herald the arrival of... FLESH-EATING ZOMBIE SNOWMEN?!?

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say
He was made of snow
But the children know
How he came to life one day.

I was kindly invited to the [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational, and I got the idea that I'd use it as an excuse to finally finish this old WIP. Because apparently, my muse needs a deadline. For which I was fashionably late anyway, but here it is.

Title: Testament
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: ~5000
Fandom: Buffyverse,
Characters: Mostly Faith, Giles and Wesley; some Buffy/Spike.
Disclaimer: The usual stuff about Joss, money, characters, blood, large bowls of porridge, rightful claim to throne, etc.
Summary: The Angel gang's last stand didn't go unnoticed among those who used to know them, especially given their last communications on the eve of the battle. Two letters and a phone call start a chain reaction that force the survivors to re-evaluate their situation.

Fic started in 2005, revised and finished in 2008 for the [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational.

"Before we talk of any repentance, try walking in my shoes; you'll stumble in my footsteps." (Depeche Mode)

"To live outside the law, you must be honest." (Bob Dylan)

beer_good_foamy: (Dr Horrible)
So, let's combine a few things. This post has:

- A few Dr Horrible icons.
- A bunch of Kennedy and Willow/Kennedy (because I've a feeling that those of us in the K-Club who still read the comics are going to need them)
- And a couple of S8!Dawn (spoilers up until #16).

Teasers:

Listing and table under the cut )

As always: free to a good home with comment and credit.

Here's a bunch of icons, mostly for [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr's female power thingy month. Oh, and for one of them I got this, for which I am - as ever - humble and grateful, both to those who voted and to the indomitable [livejournal.com profile] xlivvielockex:

Anyway, the 100x100s. Swedish dialogue taken from the Selfless shooting script:

OK, this is for [livejournal.com profile] elisi, inspired by this post. Flocked just because, well... um...

ETA: OK, it was silly, I've taken off the flock. I've written worse stuff than this. Hell, Joss has written worse stuff than this. Make sure to check out [livejournal.com profile] speakr2customrs's In A Big Country for more Giant!Dawn crack.

Title: Did It Sing?
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Fandom: Buffy “season 8” comics/Torchwood
Characters/Pairing: Implied Dawn/Myfanwy
Spoilers: Preview of “Season 8” #16
Warnings: Implied inter-species sex, pregnancy

Who knew that line was actually foreshadowing? )

I won awards! As did some people on my flist, so congrats to [livejournal.com profile] shapinglight and [livejournal.com profile] snowpuppies (as well as all the other winners, of course) and huge thanks to everyone who voted/judged!

Under the cut )

But enough about me; make sure you check out [livejournal.com profile] snowpuppies' ficlet Chosen, which is a chilling and very convincing slice of Watcher-Slayer interaction.

Finally, a few icons I made for the [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr prompt "Surrealism," shamefully ripping off René Magritte's The Treachery of Images; the painting of a pipe with the caption "This is not a pipe." Because things are never what they seem in the Jossverse.

OK, s8 crackfic time again. [livejournal.com profile] aycheb suggested that the fact that we haven’t seen Dawn’s supposed boyfriend Kenny in the comics means that we can use our own imaginations to make him anything we want.

So I did.

To be precise, I borrowed another Kenny. Off the top of my head, I know of three people named Kenny: FM rocker Kenny Loggins, former NY Islanders defender Kenny Jönsson, and... this guy. I did mention that this is crackfic, right?

Title: Let's Sing "Dawn Is A Giant" In D Minor
Author: Beer Good ([livejournal.com profile] beer_good_foamy)
Rating: PG13
Word Count: ~990
Characters/Pairing: Dawn/Kenny
Fandom: Buffy s8 comics/South Park. Pre-"Long Way Home".
Disclaimer: These characters are the property of Joss Whedon, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and their respective companies. Anyone who would want to pay me for this is obviously too insane to earn any money with which to pay me.
Warning: WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG.
Summary: So what really happened to Dawn?

That series has warped my fragile little mind. )

Growing up in public with your pants on

You know, I miss Dawn Summers.

I know I probably lost a couple of readers right there; Dawn isn’t everyone’s favourite character. But still, I really liked her; she’s bubbly, she’s a bit of a klutz, she’s smarter than people give her credit for, she’s a bit selfish but even at her normal size she’s got a heart as big as a whale. She grew into an extraordinary young woman on the show and it’s a pity that she hasn’t been seen in the comics.

What? More whining? Well... yes, but I hope there's a point and some tiny bit of character study here. S8 spoilers, of course. )
